Attendance (12): 6 members, Former Mayor/Council Liaison Waldeck, 5 associates, and 1 guest. 2 Minutes approved: Noting the presence of a quorum of 6 of 8 members, Dru called for a motion to approve the Nov. and Dec. 2017 minutes. Ed W7WPO noted an omission of his wife, Patricia Rohrs KI6VNO in the Dec. attendance list and asked for the correction. Dru explained it was a typo as the correct attendance list was duly submitted to the town, and she would correct the Dec. minutes accordingly. Ed then moved to approve both minutes, Andy WB6CLS seconded, and all 6 members present voted to approve. 3 Public comments from the floor: a.Dru, together with all present, congratulated Ed W7WPO for receiving 2017 EMA (Emergency Management Association) “Volunteer of the Year” award. The award cited that Ed is not only is an ECC founding member, but has served ably for many years as ARES Emergency Coordinator (EC) for LAH. The ECC further congratulated Alice Sakamoto KK6EBJ, a CERT HAM and a CERT supervisor who also received the award for LAH. LAHECC_Minutes_20180102-DRAFT-1.docx 2 4 ECC Activities and related: a.Mayor/LAH Council Liaison Gary Waldeck commented: i.The town of LAH has submitted the zip code change to USPS. ii.Roger Spreen, LAH council member, is the lead from LAH to discuss the management of CERT and close cooperation with ECC. He indicated that when clarified, the DSW status issued by LAH for residents not living in LAH would likely be resolved. b.Neil K2LL, EC, was absent due to illness, and thus, all the following items were deferred to the Feb. meeting: i.Refresh on 2018 ARES/RACES training and activities, including Jan. 6 course. ii.Review of Alt EOC equipment list, local training planning, 5 Old Business: a.Proposed purchase list for Alt EOC – Deferred to Feb when Neil returns. Duncan KI6VMY thought the current storage arranged w/city clerk is big enough for supplemental Alt EOC gears. b.Update: proposal to use Group SMS and/or email to report urgent messages to the ECC groups. Neil – deferred to Feb. c.Encouragement of MAC-qualified operator training for future possible use of Packet operation to reach County emergency service in case of failure of 911 access. Neil: deferred to Feb. 6 New Business: a.Preparation for a Go-Kit “show and tell” at a future ECC meeting – deferred to Feb. b.Discuss objectives for ECC 2018 activity, training, and member recruitment. i.Gary K6Air suggested that ECC ought to broaden its objectives by looking into helping LAH to enhance its current Alert system. Therefore, ECC may consider membership for those with IT/IP expertise but no ham licenses. ii.Larry KE6AGJ expressed his interests in joining ECC now that he had retired from his section chief position. Dru asked if he was willing to be an associate and he said he is. Ben KK6HH then moved to appoint Larry as an associate; Andy WB6CLS seconded, and the members present approved the motion unanimously. Dru will send a notice to the City Clerk and the LAH council of the appointment. LAHECC_Minutes_20180102-DRAFT-1.docx 3 7 Tech Talk by David Gilmour: a.David WQ1K stated he had been in contact with the County ADC Michael Fox for fast data emergency communication. b.Michael Fox suggested to start on working on ARDEN (Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network); Cupertino and LA ARES have been experimenting with its use and application.. c.David asked for volunteers to start a small study group to experiment with ARDEN.
