Minutes

1. Roll Call: The following were present: Peter Evans, John Harpootlian, Lew
Jamison, Mark Jensen, Steve Schmidt, Raj Reddy, Walt Wilson & Jay Shideler. Also
present was invited guest from PG&E, Papia Gambelin
2. Committee acceptance of the minutes: March 17, 2008 Minutes unanimously
approved as presented.
3. Concept for establishing Goals and setting Priority: These minutes, henceforth,
shall follow this format of denoting priority as (Value-Time) until further notice.
“Value” and “Time” are expressed as one of three letters: “H” – high, “M”- medium
or “L” – low.
Energy:
1. Energy Renewable & Consumption Reduction Initiatives – (H-H) Steve:
• Steve presented a framework and preliminary goals for residential energy
analysis to target high users. Committee recommends first to concentrate on
benchmarking consumption, later to develop an execution plan to reduce
consumption.
• Metroscan – send document via internet to EIC members - Steve
• Kilo-O-Watt meters: Carl Cahill wrote an email discouraging the Town’s
purchase of these meters & misc. items. Papia stated that PG&E funds may
be available for purchase these meters and other items directly related to
analyzing Town Hall and residential energy consumption. Put together a list
of desirable items and submit to Papia. (H-H) – Steve, Peter.
• Climate Smart – Consider having LAH becoming the first Santa Clara County
community to join Climate Smart – (H-M) - Steve, Papia
• Real-Time PG&E meters – PG&E has no plan to implement this type of
readout in the immediate future. However, when it does, next-day energy
usage visibility will be available on the web. – (H-M) Papia, Peter, Steve
• ECLEI – LAH has formally joined ECLEI. Steve is acquainting himself with
their software, which was designed for government infrastructure. See if it
can be applied to residential homes– give updates and keep the EIC informed.

• Town Hall energy monitoring: FSI’s, Allan Pong, has set up monitors on
critical circuits – data to analyzed circuits will be available this week – share
results with committee. (H-H) Mark, Walt
• Residential Smart Metering/Energy Simulation - no new activity. (H/M) Peter
• Pool energy conservation article for LAH Newsletter – write and submit (H-
H) Steve
2. Solar Energy Generation:
• Solar website monitoring (M-L) Breene/Jay – no new activity
• Fuel consumption (LAH government) – no new activity but the new Green
Waste contract will reduce fuel consumption from garbage trucks significantly
(M-L) – Breene, Jay
Green Construction and Demolition (H-H) - Raj:
1. Generate game-plan and submit for EIC review for next meeting. (H-H) - Raj
2. Supply HERS details of proposed pool as and example for Build-It-Green pools
(H-H) – Liz Yanez, Steve, Raj
3. Require Green Waste dumpsters be mandatory for all C&D work (M-H) - Jay
Recycling:
1. Green Waste Recovery’s proposal, to commence October 1, 2008 for 8 years.
Details of contract are being worked out with ad Hoc committee (H-H) - Jay
2. Residential trash/garbage to the landfill Recycling reclamation by LAG Co. was
62% in February. (M-M) - (Jay) -
3. Green Waste’s chemical analysis of solid waste may be available for staff of LAH
– investigate. (M-M) - Jay
Water Consumption:
1. Landscape Water & Conservation Guidelines – nearly ready to go out as a
recommendation documentation for new home sites along with recommended low
water consumption plant guide (H-M) John –
• Mandatory Irrigation Ordinance: A new formula for water efficiency
guideline based on water consumption per square foot was used to evaluate
some new properties and Little League Field. It was found that LLF actually
passed although this need to be checked for accuracy. Send out document to
EIC members. – (H-H) - John
2. Little League Field – no new updates (H-M) - John, Jay, Breene.
Miscellaneous:
1. EIC Website–Town Hall is contracting with Dave Snow to design generic
websites for all committees to utilize – EIC will be first to be incorporated using a
template in about 4 weeks. Any limits on uploading information that is generic
and already present on the internet? Investigate (H-H) Lew
2. Sustainability in the Hills:
• EIC documents for Anna to upload unto her website – needs follow-through
(M-H) Jay.
• Both Green Waste & LAG Co have been invited to set up a booth at
Earthday, April 20, 2008. LAG Co declined (would be there if insisted by the
EIC). Green Waste will be there with a booth (M-M) - Jay
• Earthday on April 20, 2008, set up EIC booth – Jay to provide tables,
chairs and umbrella. Have literature available for Earthday guests (M-H)
– Jay (recycling & solar), Raj (C&D & solar), Mark (solar), Peter (solar)
3. Existing benchmarking for LAH – Has it been done in the past? (M-H) - Jay
4. Goals and Objectives – Each sub committee is to look at my sample goals and
come up with goals that match their own subgroup activities and objectives.
Goals should be measurable and state a time for achieving them. (H-M)
Next Meeting: Monday, May 26, 2008 at 7:30PM (Parks and Recreation Building).
Note, due to attendance conflicts (Jay will be out of the country).
