1. Roll Call

2. Approval of Minutes
3. Upcoming Energy/Environmental Forums – publicity and details:
The committee agreed to erect signs, prepare a town-wide postcard mailing, and establish
a reservation system for the upcoming educational forums. These will require a requiest
for supplemental budget authority from the town council. There will also be a piece in the
upcoming town newsletter. The committee discussed a possible refinement to the “Build
it Green Survey” topic emphasizing the home as a system, in terms of ROI for retrofits,
carbon content, energy and water consumption.
4. Acterra/High Energy Homes assessment program/partnership
Steve Schmidt provided an update, indicating that there are funding proposals pending
before BAAQMD, CEC (EECBG), CEC (SEP), and PG&E. The CEC EECBG proposal
requires a letter of intent Friday (8/21) and a town resolution Sep. 24. This is the one that
seems to have the most promise
5. Westwind Barn Sustainability
Breene Kerr presented information on the historical energy and water consumption at
Westwind Barn along with proposals to qualify the retrofit for LEED certification and
make the facility more sustainable. Solar hot water heating has a 10 year payback, solar
power has a 15 year payback, and a water conservation project would reduce metered
water consumption by 90%.
The committee endorsed the pursuit of LEED certification for the retrofit and the
installation of solar hot water heating within the context of the present project. The
committee concluded that the water conservation project, as effectively a potential
permanent incremental addition to the PHWD Hetchy allocation of 1,000 units/year, has

potential to others besides the cost savings it would represent for the town. Accordingly
this project should be supported in part by others, including possibly PHWD, SCVWD,
and several foundations promoting sustainability or water-related programs.
