Environmental Initiatives Committee
Meeting Minutes DATE: Monday, July 20, 2009

1. Roll Call
Present: John Harpootlian, Lew Jamison, Peter Evans, Rich Larsen
Absent: Raj Reddy
Also present: Steve Schmidt, Elizabeth Snyder, Rick Weiss
2. Approval of Minutes
3. Hidden Villa July 26
The committee agreed not to have a table at the Hidden Villa concert on July 26
4. Acterra/High Energy Homes assessment program
Steve Schmidt reported that Acterra will seek a grant for this program through the Bay Area Air Quality
Management District with Atherton, with the proposal due Friday. They also expect the town to have the
opportunity to apply for a Recovery Act grant from the CEC through either the Community Block Grants
or State Energy Plan grants that could be directed to this program. The CBG is non-competitive but has a
performance threshold. Atherton, Woodside, Portola Valley, and Monte Sereno are possible partner cities.
Grants from the SEP are competitive.
5. LAH’s ICLEI Annual Report
Steve Schmidt presented a proposal to assist the town in preparing an update to its GHG inventory. The
committee acknowledged the benefit of continuing to track town GHG emissions but tabled action on the
proposal.
6. Upcoming Energy/Environmental Forum dates:
The committee agreed to request dates for the following forums:
• PV: 9/16
• GHG reprise 10/14
• Home Energy Savings 12/9
Portola Valley has a PV seminar scheduled for July 28.The LAH WCC turf talk is scheduled for September
as well. We would like to have 50-100 people at these forums. An article will be prepared for the town
newsletter.
7. Solar Water Heating
Steve Schmidt discussed a solar water heating approach that utilizes evacuated tubes.
8. LAH Student Transportation lead
Elizabeth Snyder agreed to look into grant funding for a possible student transportation program.

item on this agenda will be made available for public inspection in the City Clerk’s office located at Town
Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, California during normal business hours.
