Draft Meeting Minutes

NOTICE TO PUBLIC
Any writings or documents provided to a majority of the Environmental Initiatives Committee regarding any
item on this agenda will be made available for public inspection in the City Clerk’s office located at Town
Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, California during normal business hours.
1. Roll Call
Present: John Harpootlian, Lew Jamison, Peter Evans, Breene Kerr, Rich Larsen
Absent: Raj Reddy
Also present: Steve Schmidt, Jay Shideler
2. Approval of Minutes
3. GHG Forum June 17
The committee reviewed preparations for the forum. John Harpootlian agreed to do a Hills 2000 email
notice. We also agreed to look into signed that could be posted along roads in the town.
4. Upcoming Energy/Environmental Forums:
• Solar PV – the committee agreed to do this forum in late summer
• GreenWaste/Refuse/Recycling
• Smart Water Meters (with WCC)
• Home Energy Savings – the committee agreed to do this forum in October or November
• Irrigation (with WCC)
• Build it Green – Breene proposed to do a forum focused on measures for existing homewners
5. Town Picnic Recap
The committee agreed that in the future we want have our table display in the main picnic area, and that the
committee should have a 10 x 10 shelter for such events. Breene suggested the EIC have a table at the July
26 concert at Hidden Villa.
6. LAH Student Transportation Lead
7. Carbon Footprint Calculator
Steve Schmidt suggested incorporating the carbon footprint calculator identified by Lew in the
LAHGreen.org wiki.
8. LAH’s ICLEI Annual Report
This is due at the end of the year. We discussed updating the town’s PV inventory.
9. Los Altos Environmental Commission liaison
Jay Shideler agreed to approach the Los Altos Environmental Commission as EIC Chair Emeritus and to
offer to share historical perspective and lessons learned on the LAH garbage contract.
10. Public Comment
Jay Shideler asked to comment on the matter of solar construction in setbacks and the possibility of
developing a graywater resource in connection with the City of Palo Alto.
