3. Earth Day April 17
Steve Schmidt and Davena Gentry of Acterra updated the committee on outreach activities for the town’s
High Energy Home energy assessment program, including a display at Earth Day and possibly upcoming
avenues such as the Town Picnic and Our Town. The program will target 250 homes in LAH with energy
bills exceeding $700/month. Davena will be the Acterra lead for outreach for the participating
communities.
The committee agreed to present some sort of child-appropriate interactive display promoting home energy
efficiency consistent with Earth Day Every Day theme. We expect to have access to electric power. Sheela
said she could look into programs developed as part of the De Anza College Environmental Studies
program. Raj said he would look into programs developed for Scouts.
Other possible outreach opportunities for the home assessment program include other town committees, the
Bullis Charter School “Green Team” the Gardner Bullis equivalent, and local scouting groups.
4. LAH Green Building Ordinance & PV Ordinances – Update
The committee noted that the California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) became mandatory
in January 1, 2011. These are measures within Title 24 that address planning, design, and building
construction in the areas of site development, water efficiency, material conservation, and resource
efficiency. For residential construction municipalities can incorporate CALGreen Tier 1 or Tier 2 in their
building codes as voluntary or mandatory measures. The town’s green building ordinance, which is based
on a GreenPoint Rated point total, is comparable in some respects to CALGreen Tier 1 or Tier 2.

The committee took on the task of developing a recommendation for a Goal IV in the Fast Track Guide that
would address sustainability. The committee discussed various ideas, and agreed that such a goal should
incorporate sustainability, efficient use of limited common resources, and in those respects being a good
neighbor. The committee did not agree on a specific goal.

Peter Evans distributed a BAAQMD announcement of funding for EV charging facilities forwarded by
