Regular Meeting Minutes

Notice to the Public
Any writings or documents provided to a majority of the Environmental
Initiatives Committee regarding any item on this agenda will be made
available for public inspection in the City Clerk’s office located at Town
Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, California during normal
business hours.
1. Roll Call
The meeting was called to order with a quorum present at 7:05 pm.
Attendees: April Anair, Jehan Godrej, Peter Evans, Raj Reddy, Serena Giori (chair),
John Harpootlian (Council Liaison).
Community Member: Steve Schmidt.
2. Approval of Minutes
Approval was postponed to the September 25 meeting.
3. Meeting with Patrick Walter of Purissima, John Harpootlian, Peter Evans,
Serena Giori attending.
Purissima asked the Committee’s help in informing the residents of the necessity to
conserve water because of the drought. Purissima offered to pay for a mailing to their
customers with a list of suggested action items aimed at water conservation.
Meeting at Cal Water. New rates effective August 29, 2014.
The meeting with Cal Water is scheduled for September. Cal Water has a similar
problem in communicating to their users the urgency of the situation and the need to
conserve water. The objective of the forthcoming meeting is to coordinate initiatives.
4. Discussion of EIC initiatives on water conservation to be prepared for Council
meeting of September 11th and October 16th.
The committee discussed an initiative to be proposed to the Council: the declaration
of September 21, 2014 as Water Conservation Day.
Motion by Raj Reddy, seconded by Jehan Godrej, for the EIC to propose the
declaration to the Council’s consideration. Motion passed 5-0
5. Town Hall energy use and smart meter data: presentation of August 7th.
Steve Schmidt reviewed his presentation to planning committee members of
neighboring towns. The presentation was well received. Several attendees expressed
interest in performing similar analysis of energy use.
6. CCA Update.
April Anair had no new information to report. She will continue monitoring this
initiative.
7. Report on status of Remodel Initiatives of the April 24th EIC meeting and follow
up on Public Comments of the same meeting.
Open Business. No new report on the status of the remodel initiatives from Planning.
8. Report on status of EIC Fast Track sustainability recommendations
Open Business. No new report on the status of the EIC’s recommendations from
Planning.
9. Public Comment
Kit Gordon attended part of the meeting to meet the members of the EIC. She is
interested in joining the EIC as an Associate Member. She briefly discussed the Rain
Harvest Seminar’s objectives.
