HomeMy WebLinkAboutMay 22LOSALTOS HILLS Environmental Initiatives Committee Regular Meeting Minutes !�- DATE: Thursday, May 22, 2014 FH I R N I A TIME: 7:00 PM LOCATION: Parks & Recreation Building, NOTICE TO PUBLIC Airy writings or documents provided to a majority of the Environmental Initiatives Committee regarding any item on this agenda will be made available for public inspection in the City Clerk's office located at Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, California during normal business hours. 1. Roll Call The meeting was called to order with a quorum present at 7:10 pm. Attendees: Raj Reddy, Aileen Lee, Serena Giori (vice chair), April Anair, Sheela Veerina, Peter Evans (chair), John Harpootlian (Council Liason), Community Members: Steve Schmidt, Kjell Karlsson 2. Approval of Minutes Motion by Serena Giori, second by Raj Reddy to approve the committee minutes for the meetings of July, October, and November 2013, and January, February, March, and April 2014. Passed unanimously 3. Remodel related initiatives The committee agreed to forward to the town clerk the writeup implementing the recommendation adopted by the committee at its April meeting. 4. EIC initiatives review 5. CCA Update 6. UUT for undergrounding 7. GHG Reduction Initiatives Steve Schmidt provided an update and the committee discussed the town's GHG emission inventory and progress toward adopted goals. The 2011 and 2012 inventory updates are complete, and the committee should schedule a report to the town council. The data show the community GHG emission inventory is improving due to reduced electricity consumption, but getting worse due to increased non -space -heating natural gas use. Town operations GHG emission inventory is getting worse due to the loss of climate offsets and increased electricity use at town facilities. There is a possibility the committee will want to update the goals or adopt a formal climate action plan but no action was taken. To support possible future committee action, Steve Schmidt offered to seek better data on town facilities energy use. April Anair offered to seek additional information on ways to reduce the GHG content of the garbage collection service. Peter Evans offered to seek more information on energy use at Foothill College. 8. Public Comment The committee agreed to man a table at the town picnic. 9. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm
