Environmental Initiatives Committee
Regular Meeting Meetings DATE: May 4, 2017
TIME: 6:30 PM
LOCATION: Parks & Recreation Building,
1. Roll Call - Committee members in attendance: Peter Evans, Drew Grewal, Sheela Veerina,
Srini Srinivasan, and Aileen Lee (quorum at 5 of 8). Council Liaison: Roger Spreen
Community Members: Steve Schmidt, Olesia Chikunova. Citizen’s Climate Lobby: Karl
Danz, Paula Danz, Randy Salim, Laura Shoemaker
2. Approval of Minutes – Minutes to be revised for clarification. (Sentence reading “LAH
upgraded to 100% renewable GreenPrime” should be revised to clarify that we are referring
to the Town’s municipal accounts only)
3. Citizen’s Climate Lobby Presentation – Representatives from the Citizen’s Climate
Lobby joined the meeting to request that the EIC recommend that the Town Council adopt a
resolution endorsing their proposal that the U.S. congress enact legislation around their
carbon fee and dividend proposal. The EIC discussed their proposal and a potential
resolution, and identified a few items for further investigation and follow-up.
4. Green Building Ordinance Review and update – Sub-committee determined that Town
can adopt new thresholds for both fast track and full permitting without requiring additional
approvals by the State. As such, sub-committee proposed that the EIC recommend to the
Town that it update its thresholds based on Build It Green 7.0, and require a score of 79
(silver level) for permitting, and a score of 110 (gold level) for fast track approval. The
committee voted unanimously to make this recommendation.
5. Water Conservation: No update
6. CDP Participation: Submission completed
7. SVCEA – Steve Schmidt reported that SVCEA is proceeding with roll-out. He pointed out
that we should now be thinking about how SVCEA deploys its resources around
conservation incentives (e.g. EV promotions, water pump heaters)
8. Meeting adjourned 8:15
