Roll call Committee Members present: Nobuko Cleary, Bill Downey, Les Earnest, Maryann Malcolm Associate Member present: Barbara Packard Council Liaison present: Jean Mordo Others present: Jitze Couperus Minutes of the 1/19/10 Committee meeting Reviewed and approved. Inventory Subcommittee. Earnest reported having reviewed another eight historical scrapbooks and folders on Jan. 26, bringing the total to 26 and the page count to 2,103, with perhaps another dozen scrapbooks to go. In order to assess the size of the prospective scrapbook scanning project, the Inventory Subcommittee will continue cataloging page counts in Council Chambers on Tuesday, Feb. 23 beginning at 1:30pm. Scanning Project Earnest reported that the Internet Archive http://www.archive.org, located in San Francisco, has a book scanning service that does two pages at a time and converts to text files at a cost of 10 cents per page. He advocated putting historical Town Newsletters on the Town web site by acquiring PDF versions of those from recent years and getting the Internet Archive to scan hard copy versions from earlier years. He estimated that the scanning costs using the Internet Archive would be on the order of $100. The committee concurred with this approach and authorized him to proceed. Jitze Couperus discussed further his experimental photographic recording of Town history scrapbooks and the likelihood that a commercial scanning service will likely be needed if those materials are to be digitized. Renaming Edith Park Mordo reported that the Council plans to take up the question of whether to rename Edith Park at their meeting on April 15 and will consider the ideas put forth earlier by History Committee members. If anyone would like to participate they should attend and possibly should put a proposal in writing. Meeting Adjourned at 2:30 PM Submitted by Les Earnest, Secretary
