3. OLD BUSINESS
a. Inventory Subcommittee
Earnest had reported finding in the Archive a listing of contents of a time capsule
reportedly planted in a silver box in Town Hall on the 25th anniversary of the
Town’s founding. Karen Jost subsequently reported that it had been found during
the reconstruction of Town Hall but that nearly all of the contents had
disintegrated. Earnest also found additional Minutes of the LAH Historical
Society from the 1990s including their Bylaws, which it turned out they were
looking for. Cataloging will continue on Tuesday, November 23 beginning at
1:30pm in Council Chambers.
b. Town Newsletter scanning project
Nothing new to report. Still incomplete.
c. Street and path name history project
An article about this project will appear in the next Town Newsletter.
d. Dedication ceremonies for paths and a road named for historical figures
Will be held on December 5 in conjunction with the Westwind Barn Lighting
ceremony, which unfortunately conflicts with the time of a LAH Historical
Society lecture to be held in Cupertino. Nick Dunckel of the Pathways Committee
will lead a hike over the newly dedicated Packard and Wallace Stegner Paths.
e. Update of Town History web page
Nothing new to report.
f. Historical Sites and Structures project
Nothing new to report.
4. New Business
a. Proposed amendments to Municipal Code
The Committee unanimously recommended that Title 11 of the Town Municipal
Code be amended as follows in order to conform with current Town organization.
In the following section the phrase "the Los Altos Hills Historical Society or the
Town Historian" should be replaced by "the Los Altos Hills History Committee".
11-1.01 Initiation of designation.
Initiation of the designation of a structure, natural features, sites or areas having
historical, architectural, cultural, or aesthetic significance as a landmark, shall be by the
resolution of the City Council, or upon the request of the Los Altos Hills Historical
Society or the Town Historian, the verified application of the owner or authorized agent
of the property to be designated. The application shall be filed with the City Clerk upon
forms which the City Clerk shall provide, and shall be accompanied by all data required
by the City Council. (§ 1, Ord. 213, as amended by § 2 (part), Ord. 257, eff. December 7,
1979)
The following section should be deleted from the Code, since the History Committee is
already recognized as a Standing Committee by Council Resolution.
11-1.02 Los Altos Hills Historical Society—Town Historian.
The Los Altos Hills Historical Society is hereby recognized as a private, voluntary
committee composed of citizens interested in historic preservation. The Town Historian
is a person so appointed by the City Council. The City Council may consult with and
shall consider the ideas and recommendations of the Los Altos Hills Historical Society
and the Town Historian, respectively. (§ 1, Ord. 213, as amended by § 2 (part), Ord. 257,
eff. December 7, 1979).
5. Presentations from the floor
