Committee Members present: Nobuko Cleary, Les Earnest, Maryann Malcolm; Barbara Packard arrived at 2:12pm. Committee Member absent: Bill Downey. Council Liaison absent: Jean Mordo Others present: Davena Gentry (Acterra) 2. Committee Meeting Minutes of July 19, 2011 Reviewed and approved. 3. OLD BUSINESS a. Street and path name history project No further developments. Project suspended for now. b. Historic sites and structures A folder of documents for committee consideration was handed out by Barbara Packard. c. History lectures on audio tape. Barbara Packard suggested that her husband Martin be contacted regarding possible digitization of these lectures. d. Proposed revision of History Committee charter (Council Resolution 8-11) The Committee approved the following resolution for consideration by the Council. Whereas the History Committee charter specified in Council Resolution 8-11 needs clarification, we recommend that the Council amend it as follows. Note that “charges and duties” a and b are in conflict with paragraph (iii). (j) History Committee (i) The membership of this Committee shall consist of nine (9) members. The mission of the Historical Committee shall be the preservation of the Los Altos Hills heritage. (ii) The charges to and duties of this Committee shall be: a. to implement policies that preserve the historic and cultural fabric of the Town; b. to protect the historic and cultural resources from inappropriate destruction; c. to preserve community input into the policy-making process; d. to research and document best practices and model preservation policies; e. to organize and make available to the public the historic artifacts that have been preserved and to continue to collect historic artifacts for future generations. (iii) Nothing in the aforementioned charges and duties shall be interpreted as authorizing the mandatory historic preservation of private residences or require property owners to submit their pending site development plans before the Committee. 4. NEW BUSINESS a. Annual election of officers By consensus, Nobuko Cleary was reelected Chair, Les Earnest as Secretary and Maryann Malcolm as Vice Chair. 5. PRESENTATIONS FROM THE FLOOR Davena Gentry representing Acterra (Action for a Healthy Planet) gave a presentation on the need to conserve energy consumption and how to achieve it. The Committee discussed the need to recruit more active members and the possibility of inviting applications via the Town Newslatter. 6.
