HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 15 Los Altos Hills History Committee Minutes April 15, 2014 Chairwoman Carol Gottlieb called the meeting to order at 3:35 pm Present: Carol Gottlieb, Mary Ann Malcolm, Catherine Popell, May Davenport, Ginger Summit Absent: Nobuko Cleary, Jitze Couperus, Carol Crites and Associates: Joe Heinrich, Linda Swan, Mary Van Tamlen Late Arrival: Diane Brauch 4:10 pm Early Departure: None Guests: Byron Davenport, Kjell Karlsson Review of Minutes: Unanimous approval after it was corrected to read Catherine Popell as absent. Old Business: 1. Old Archives—Scanning and storing of materials continues. Jitze Couperus, Carol Crites and Joe Heinrich 2. Oral History—Ginger Summit shared a list of completed oral histories, completed but not yet transcribed and those still to do. Plans and ideas about the project were discussed. Ginger Summit and Nobuko Clearly 3. Street Names—Diane and Catherine are reading past Council minutes and added Blesoe Ct. to the list. Diane Brauch and Catherine Popell 4. Collection of Current History Information—An idea of an easier way of collecting information was presented by Mary Ann Malcolm. It will be discussed again after she investigates it further. Mary Ann Malcolm 5. Heritage Tree Ordinance was moved to New Business 6. Shed for Farm Equipment—An opened-sided, roofed structure has been built. The Sprayer and Cupola were placed in it. This was erected since the last meeting. The quick response from staff is appreciated. Mary Ann Malcolm will contact John Franco for estimates on refurbishing one or more of the farm equipment. She will also explore restoration of the Cupola. Possible signage was discussed. 7. Preservation of Historical Landmarks of Interest---Carol Gottlieb and Mary Ann Malcolm have given the City Clerk, Deborah Padovan, a list of addresses of places of historical interest, including water towers and siloes, for Appendix A. 8. October Event—plans are progressing New Business: Tree Ordinance sent to Planning Commission. Shall we support the ordinance? After discussion of the letter sent to the Town Council Members by the Chair of the Environmental Design and Protection Committee, a motion was made by Catherine Popell and seconded by Ginger Summit that The Tree Ordinance proposal is sent back to the Environmental Design and Protection Committee for further consideration. Votes on the motion: Yes: Carol Gottlieb, Mary Ann Malcolm, Catherine Popell, May Davenport, Ginger Summit. No: Diane Brauch Town Picnic: discussion of places of interest walk is ongoing A Historical Story Display: the ideas and work on this is continuing. The meeting adjourned at 4:32 pm.
