HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 19Los Altos Hills History Committee Minutes August 19, 2014 Chairwoman Carol Crites called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Present: Carol Crites, Carol Gottlieb, Nobuko Cleary, Mary Ann Malcolm, Diane Brauch, Jitze Couperus, Ginger Summit, Catherine Popell and Associate Linda Swan Absent: May Davenport Late Arrival: Ginger Summit 3:37 p.m. Early Departure: Nobuko Cleary 4:42 p.m. Guests: None Review of the Minutes: Unanimous approval of the Minutes after the following corrections were made; Larson/Larsen, Feinwick/ Bob and Jan Fenwick, illuminate/eliminate, discuss/discussed. The following had been omitted from the minutes; Rich Larsen will discuss with town maintenance the repair of the Shumate Gates. Subcommittee Reports: Old Archives: Jitze has scanned over half of the available Town Newsletters, adding key words in preparation for future website use. Eight scrapbooks have been scanned. There was discussion on developing a Town historical timeline and designing of a front page for the web. Jitze will pursue these. Oral History: Nubuko reported that once a picture has been received from her subject that oral history will be completed. Street Names: Diane has the street names information ready to move to Jitze’s digital website still in progress. It is on the Town website, but not easy to find. Collection of Current History Information: Mary Ann brought to the Committee’s attention that since the Town Crier’s website has information available from 1993 and is continually updating information, this subcommittee is now redundant. It was agreed that this subcommittee is no longer relevant. Preservation of Historical Landmarks of Interest: Nothing new to report. Old Business: Farm Equipment: Mary Ann will meet with the City Engineer, Richard Chiu in regard to developing a blue print for the restoration, labeling and pathway for the farm equipment area. A motion was made and unanimously voted on by the Committee. Motion: The Committee moved to request the Council to place the cupola on the street side, outside of the Council Chambers, and direct staff to investigate ways to restore and secure it. Please reference the picture below. Repair of Shumate Gates: Council representative Rich Larsen is pursuing this. Packard Presentation: Preparation for this was extensively discussed. To date 35 people have RSVP’d. Historical Display in March as part of art exhibit: Carol Gottlieb will meet with Karen to find out the space allowed for the exhibit. Vice Mayor Courtenay Corrigan has offered to assist . The Committee will contact her when this work progresses.
