HomeMy WebLinkAboutMay 20Los Altos Hills History Committee Minutes May 20, 2014 Chairwoman Carol Gottlieb called the meeting to order at 3:32 Present: Carol Gottlieb, Nobuko Cleary, Mary Ann Malcolm, Diane Bauch, Catherine Popell, May Davenport, Jitze Couperus, Carol Crites and Associates Joe Heinrich, Linda Swan Absent: Ginger Summit and Mary Van Tamlen (The meeting notice was not sent to Mary) Late Arrival: Linda Swan 3:37 Early Departure: None Guests: Cathy Winter, Executive Assistant to the President of the Packard Foundation Review of the Minutes: Unanimous approval after Agenda item 7 was corrected to read Carol Crites instead of Carol Gottlieb Old Business: 1. October Event. (moved from #7 on the Agenda) Cathy Winter informed the Committee that the children of David Packard have accepted the invitation to speak at our next event. The moderator, time, date and submitted questions to be finalized. 2. Old Archives. Book Eight is completed; Book Seven is being worked on. Work is being done on the files. Jitze Couperus, Carol Crites and Joe Heinrich 3. Oral History. Nobuko Cleary has completed the video of the Morgan’s and is waiting for Ginger’s return to assist with editing. Oral histories are now concentrating on Los Altos Hills residents and former residents. Nobuko Cleary and Ginger Summit 4. Street Names. Two more street names were submitted. Diane Brauch will send the Google spreadsheet link of completed street names to the City Clerk, Deborah Padovan, to see if it can be put on the Town website. Diane Brauch and Catherine Popell 5. Collection of Current History Information. More information has been gathered. Mary Ann Malcolm 6. Shed for Farm Equipment. Mary Ann Malcolm reviewed John Franco’s estimate for the refurbishing of the farm equipment and Cupola. Discussion followed. Possible placement of the Cupola was also discussed. Mary Ann Malcolm 7. Preservation of Historical Landmarks of Interest. The correct procedure in pursuing the preservation of historical landmarks was discussed. The Planning Director, Debbie Pedro, will be asked to help with clarification. Carol Crites 8. Town Picnic—Places of Interest Walk. Carol Gottlieb and Mary Ann Malcolm discussed the path(s) from Town Hall that will be available for residents to walk to the Picnic. A map with historical information for areas along the path will be available to walkers. The City Clerk, Deborah Padovan, will be asked about the feasibility of e-mailing residents who are coming to the picnic with the information. The History Committee and Pathways Committee are working in conjunction on the project. 9. A Historical Display. Stored historical artifacts need to be arranged in an easier accessible manner. During the Committee’s presentation to the City Council member, Courtenay Corrigan, offered to assist. She will be contacted when this project begins. Booth at Picnic/History Walk with Pathway Committee: Mary Ann Malcolm will set up the booth. She and other members will work in the booth. Nobuko Cleary volunteered to demonstrate and teach origami. Handouts, pictures and other information were discussed. Carol Crites, Carol Gottlieb and Linda Swan will help with the historical walk to the picnic. The meeting adjourned at 5:15 pm.
