September 16, 2014
Meeting called to order at 3:30 by Chairwoman Carol Crites.
Present: Carol Crites, Carol Gottlieb, Nobuko Cleary, Mary Ann Malcolm, Diane Brauch, May Davenport,
Jitze Couperus and Council Liaison, Rich Larsen
Not Present: Ginger Summit
Late Arrival: Jitze Couperus 3:34, Mary Ann Malcom 3:37
Early Departure: None
Guests:
Richard Chiu, Jr., City Engineer/Public Works—Director At the Committee’s request, Richard
discussed and answered questions regarding the cupola and farm equipment. (This covered Old
Business item A)
Les Earnest : Treasurer of The Los Altos Hills Historical Society. Les updated the Committee on
the status of the Historical Society and the 50 oral histories in their possession. If the Historical Society
votes itself out of existence they do have plans for the dispersal of its treasury. Les relayed the terms.
The discussion of the terms will be added to the October 21 meeting.
Review of the Minutes: The minutes were unanimously accepted after the following correction was
added. Absent: Rich Larsen—Council Liaison
Committee Reports: The Committee agreed to delay this until this Sunday’s Heritage Event, the Packard
Presentation, was discussed.
Old Business: Committee agreed to move this agenda item to the forefront of discussion
C. Packard Presentation 9/21/14—Chairwoman Carol Crites reviewed tasks that needed to be
accomplished and confirmed Committee members duties. There was a general discussion of the event.
Committee Reports:
A. Digital Archives & Website— Jitze reported that this is still in progress.
B. Oral History Project—Nobuko reported on the lower cost she managed to obtain for the
completion of one of the histories. Cost was discussed by the Committee
C. Street Names—Diane has submitted more data on street names
D. Collection of Current History Information—This is no longer a Committee and was
inadvertently placed on the agenda
E. Preservation of Historical Landmarks of Interest—Carol Gottlieb reported on the recent
designation of a 200 year old Oak tree.
Old Business:
A. Plan for Farm Equipment and Cupola—This was already discussed. See Guests Richard Chiu,
Jr.
B. Repair of Shumate Gates—Rich Larsen reported this is ongoing.
C. Packard Presentation 9/21/14—already discussed earlier in the meeting.
D. Historical Display in March as part of art exhibit—will be taken up at next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 5:00 pm.
