Presentations:
John Harpootlian – Town plans to have new councilmember within 60 days and offered liaison services
until a replacement. Discussing 60th anniversary party and dinner dance. Overview of 10 year past for
LAH: seeking advice for events to highlight over past 10 years; points of significance. He anticipates Alex
(newsletter) as graphic artist for project. Hopes to put some kind of video or slides (power point)
showing significance of decade in LAH. Do something with 4 panels that were used (make additional
panel) for 50th anniversary as a minimum “theme” for 60th anniversary.
At 50th anniversary a DVD was provided showing first 50 years history. Possibly create something similar
for 60th. John asked for suggestions on the party at Los Altos County Club. Magic show and singing are
two suggestions. Suggestions at party include a green screen with fun backdrops, people dressed in
costume and in character.
Suggestions for past 10 years of progress/interest:
Show sections of annexed properties (approx. 180 parcels) to LAH – “town growth”
Westwind Barn upgrades & arena
Ball Park Fields
Dog Park
Pathways expansion (easement process)
Carol Crites reviewed 10 years of newsletters looking for interesting events
Underground 2 sections utilities
Packard & Stegner plaques
General:
People – those who passed away and made residency
Construction --
Milestones
Events – wineries, town picnic growth,
Suzanne Avila – reviewing town plan for historical properties and how the town deals with it. Suzanne
reviewed current historical list and suggested how to add to historical sites. Les mentioned the town list
is more an “informational list” and has no weight. Current town list is within general plan and Suzanne
thinks staff takes those properties into account when projects come in. She presented an example of a
historical proposal that was completed for Stegner property on Fremont.
Carol Crites pointed out that Stegner property was not on the town historical list, highlighting that the
town list is not thorough. Suzanne indicated Stegner property history came up through public hearing
process.
Les pointed out that the general plan history list should be reviewed for accuracy and reliability. Many
committee members are concerned that the list should be reviewed and updated.
Committee is expressing concern to Suzanne about old structures such as water towers not being
protected. Looking for guidance on process to review and protect structures. Suzanne is going to
review the state list and compare to the LAH list.
Suzanne found miscellaneous information on Westwind Barn, Toyon Farms, pictures, etc.
Review of Minutes:
Carol Gottlieb indicated Mary Van Tamelen wants to be off of the committee.
Catherine Popell said the minutes should indicate which “minor changes” are changed in minutes.
Committee Reports:
Digital Archives & Website:
Jizte Couperus not present. Les indicated video and audio tapes have been digitized and money is
needed for completion. Each tape will need to be reviewed and summarized to remove irrelevant
information. Each tape approximately one hour. 50 tapes total.
Oral History Project:
Nobuko mentioned the success of the latest interview with Duffy Price. Waiting for the video back
which will be transcribed.
Old Business:
2015 Taaffe Event – Carol brought handouts for the event and each committee member is distributing
to various locations. Carol Crites and Nick French will bring wine and serve. Committee members going
to event early to help set up. Meeting Taaffe family at 7pm tonight to review details at Carol Crites
home.
Time Capsule – a table will be at the 60th anniversary party for ideas on what to include in the time
capsule. Prizes will be given for best ideas. Memo going in newsletter with deadline of December 30th.
The committee discussed making a motion to pay for an actual time capsule. Mary Ann coming back
