HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 16History Committee Meeting - August 16, 2016 - Final Minutes Called to order @ 3:34pm, Tuesday August 16th by John Swan Present: Mary Ann Malcolm Nicholas French Carol Crites John Swan Nobuko Cleary Carol Gottlieb Jitze Couperus Associate Members: Joe Heinrich Guests: None Liaison: Roger Spreen Presentations: none Review of Minutes: Carol Crites moved to approve minutes Mary Ann Malcolm, 2nd motion Motion passed unanimously Old Business: Annual Fall Presentation: Kim Cranston: Carol Crites presented publicity brochure to committee for the Cranston event. 40 people confirmed reservation thus far. Discussed logistics for event: light presentations prior to event of Oral History Committee. Carol Gottlieb bringing sandwiches and light appetizers. Nobuko Cleary bringing flowers. Provide gift to Kim Cranston for his time. Carol Crites made motion to allocate $1,500 for the annual presentation Mary Ann Malcolm 2nd motion Motion passed unanimously Projects and Expenditures for 2016/17: John Swan would like to provide an intern for Jitze Couperus to assist with digital archives. John Swan will discuss with Jitze Couperus prior to September Town Council Meetings New Business: Review our key goals for 2016-17: John Swan challenges committee to consider goals for coming year and respective person would champion the goal (i.e. how to prioritize). Digital archives are a top priority. Combining projects into summary (i.e. Wikipedia): discussed under other items; conversation to be continued. Joint-venture efforts with other committees: John Swan suggests working with multiple groups with history influence. Committee Reports: Town Hall Orchard Restoration/Farm Equipment, Bridget Morgan & Mary Ann Malcolm: Mary Ann Malcolm said Tina Tseng will be taking over for Richard Chiu at Town Hall. Mary Ann Malcolm presented plans of the town property including orchard. Additional trees in process to plant. Tree trimming in process. In discussion to install benches and bocce ball courts. Digital Archives, Jitze Couperus: goal to have history archives digitized by end of 2017. Committee preparing budget to present to Town Council for resources: hardware, intern labor, etc Oral History Project, Nick French & Nobuko Cleary: updating transcripts to mirror more to Los Altos History Museum transcripts including details of interviewee Preservation incentives, MaryAnn Malcolm Jitze Couperus & John Swan: Mary Ann Malcolm pointed out the Los Altos Town Crier article about Mills Act. John Swan met with Suzanne Avila about a proposal to the town regarding incentives to preserve town history. John Swan and Mary Ann Malcolm to Historical Sites: Shumate Gates, historical markers, Carol Gottlieb & Carol Crites: Carol Crites wrote article on the Shumate House that will be in The Town magazine in the upcoming issue. Carol Crites brought up Appendix A, which is part of the town municipal code that appears to be out of date. Carol Crites located addresses for all of the properties and the committee discussed how to track said properties, including pictures of each.
