Presentations:
John Harpootlian – comments on time capsule: provide a “history book” with words of wisdom and
other comments by council members and residents to be included in time capsule. Suggest printing out
Next Door website page showing any comments made
Motion made to add history book to the time capsule which will include up to one page with words of
wisdom from council members and residents.
Kim Cranston presentation – consider October presentation of the Cranston family history. Kim was a
LAH resident until 8 yrs old. Focus on the Cranston family as a “change-maker”. Next step to put
specific date for presentation on calendar.
Presentation from the floor -- Les Earnest – wants to change name of Silicon Valley to something that is
more relevant to the valley
Review of Minutes:
Minutes approved with minor change: Vicki Gardener -- should be with “I”, not “y”
Committee Reports:
Digital Archives & Website:
Jitze going through old archives for anniversary – requested 5 pictures from each decade.
Les indicated the videos and recordings are uploaded. Need to summarize each recording.
Oral History Project:
Working on 2 additional interviews – waiting for interviewees’ schedules to permit. Committee decided
to vote and approve the policy of “audio only” instead of video and approval of expenses at $100/oral
history interview
Old Business:
Time capsule – town council has agenda item to decide on date to install. Will go through contents at
April meeting. Will take group picture at March meeting which will be put in time capsule
LAH History Anthology – Carol Gottlieb suggests the History Committee being included in the content
going forward. Discussion on financing, content: substance, fact check, etc. Discussed difference
between history book and anthology. Tabled for next meeting.
Shumate Gates – gates are in road right of way. Carol Gottlieb working on it.
Farm Equipment – donated equipment has been rusting and MaryAnn inquiring about refurbishing
them. Committee supports the work being completed. Bridget Morgan will write up a proposal and
history of the farm equipment.
Digital Archives – prepared slide show by decade for 60th Anniversary Gala. 35mm slides were uploaded
online.
History Society Tapes – Les working to transcribe them
Oral History Project – Discussion of audio versus video recordings. Nobuko put history project in 10-
minute video for 60th Gala. Motion made and passed to give all oral history interviewees option for
video or audio interview option. Committee voted to have disclaimer in interview to state the content is
the interviewee’s opinion.
One-room Schoolhouse Preservation – committee investigating whether it is actually an old schoolhouse
to establish historical significance
