Duffy Price and Alex Atkins presented the completed 60th Anniversary Anthology book (36 pages) that will be given to all attendees at the 60th Anniversary party on Saturday, January 30, 2016. They explained that an additional anthology could also be completed, put on the LAH town website, and could be printed in book form to be sold to residents.  Alex Atkins would  charge $150 per completed page for this service. He explained that he has collected a large amount of additional information on LAH history as a result of compiling the book for 60th Anniversary event. History Committee discussed this and the following motion was presented by Carol Gottlieb and approved with 6 members approving (May Davenport, Carol Gottlieb, Jitze Couperus, Bridget Morgan, Catherine Popell, Mary Ann Malcolm) and one dissenting (Carol Crites):   Motion approved:  The Los Altos Hills History Committee applauds the efforts and the  production of the 36 page LAH History Anthology and believes it is a good first step towards an expanded historic anthology for the town of Los Altos Hills.  Presentations: Catherine Popell discussed her reasons for not reapplying for membership on the History Committee. Committee members expressed their thanks for her work on the street names and as secretary. Review of Minutes: Minutes were approved with one correction. It was announced that the December 2015 meeting was cancelled and instead, a holiday gathering would take place on December 15, 2015 at Carol Crites’ home. Agenda item moved: 5d. New associate member, Vicky Gardiner, was voted in unanimously. Old Business: a.Time capsule items reviewed. Mary Ann Malcolm will present the items, to be included in the time capsule, at a table at the 60th anniversary party on January 30, 2016. Jitze presented a book containing a computer stick with files of the digital scrapbook. Other items are newspaper clippings of important events, cell phone, LAH wine glasses, selfie stick, bottle from previous time capsule. Committee will set date to place items in cupola. b.A committee was formed for exploring the preservation of the first school house in LAH. Members will be Mary Ann Malcolm, Bridget Morgan, and John Swan (who is applying to become committee member).  New Business a.2016 goals include preservation of first LAH school house, restoration of Shumate Gates, and documentation of existing plaques on LAH historic sites (gates on Concepcion and Chapel in Hills, former LAH school site). History Committee would like to pursue  having Alan Cranston as the subject for the annual history presentation for the fall of 2016. John Swan will contact the Cranstons. a.History Committee will submit articles for each issue of 2016 Our Town Newsletter. For March issue, Rex Gardiner article (Vicky Gardiner); June issue, Oral Histories (Nobuko Cleary & Nick French); Sept. issue, Byrne Preserve (Carol Gottlieb); December issue, Alan Cranston (John Swan). i.Inventory of Historic info. was tabled until next meeting. a.Committee discussed appropriate in memoriam for Rex Gardiner. Jitze Couperus moved and the committee unanimously approved the motion: “The LAH History Committee heartily endorses an open space area or path be named in honor of Rex Gardiner.”   Vicky Gardiner (daughter) expressed that her father loved hiking the paths and would have been honored to have a path or space named for him.  Committee Reports a.Digital Archives report was tabled until next meeting. b.Oral History Project: Nobuko Cleary reported that the videos on Bill & Gay Krauss, Duffy Price and Gary Cleary have been completed.
