Old Business:
Time capsule –
Report of time capsule installation and LAH picnic: John Harpootlian discussed contents of time capsule
and accessibility. He quoted some of his speech from the time capsule ceremony. Not clear why certain
items were put in the capsule, such as a Google Express bag or Amazon Prime box, which expresses
some of the technology of today.
Carol Crites made (2) motions to approve items in time capsule and open time capsule at the 75th
anniversary. Passed unanimously
LAH History Anthology – John Swan indicated Duffy is trying to secure funding outside of town
committees. Discussed creating sub‐committee for integrating digitization, anthology, oral history, etc.
Annual Fall Presentation: Kim Cranston – no updates
Farm Equipment – equipment will continue to weather being outdoors. Discussed having equipment
covered to preserve. Los Altos History Museum does a better job sheltering their farm equipment
New Business:
Budget for audio/video histories, orchard equipment restoration, scrapbook digitization, church
renovation, etc: Jitze would like to create an ad hoc committee to develop a new design/interface for
history information on the town website. Committee discussed options and alternative projects for
spending funds. Carol opened conversation to have sub‐committees put estimated expenditures for the
following year and bring to July meeting.
Distribution of draft minutes: send Deborah final, approved minutes
Request to approve the inventory of all items in time capsule: motion made and passed unanimously
Committee Reports:
Digital Archives – Jitze Couperus will work with Roger Spreen and Deborah to redesign the History
section of the LAH website
Oral History Project – Nobuko Cleary reported that the oral history of Bob Stutz has been completed.
Carol Crites brought attention to the article on oral histories, submitted by Nick French, in the current
Our Town newsletter.
Preservation incentives & schoolhouse – presented a proposal passed by the Environmental Design and
Protection Committee that requested funding to renovate the apricot orchard in the Heritage
Preserve. A bid of $1685 was received to prune, spray, fertilize 17 trees in the preserve
The History Committee would like to work with the Environmental Design/Protection Committee to
renovate this area, add signage, and restored farm equipment that could be used as an educational site.
The History Committee unanimously passed the following motion moved by Carol Gottlieb:
The History Committee supports the funding for the renovation of the Heritage Apricot Orchard Grove
and its request for the Town to provide approval of funds to prune, fertilize, and soil and 10 additional
apricot trees.
Historical Sites – Mary Ann Malcolm and John Swan also met with Breen Kerr to discuss ways to
incentivize homeowners to preserve historic structures on their property. Roger Spreen recommended
working with Planning Commission and Suzanne Avila, Planning Director, to create a policy and find
ways to invoke current regulations.
