Review of Minutes: Megan Winslow was a guest from the Los Altos Town Crier. Unanimous approval of
minutes with one change
Committee Reports:
Digital Archives – discussed possible paid help to help archive data resources. Jitze discussed progress
but length of time for each
Oral History Project – finalizing Bob Stutz video interview. Working on the next interview by calling
prospective people. Nobuko mentioned the Japanese Cultural Event at Hidden Villa.
One-room Schoolhouse Preservation – report included with Historical Sites report
Historical Sites – Mary Ann wrote letter about preserving the town orchard and create an educational
environment with plaques, benches, etc. Town council discussing the open space on Moody Road that
will be designated Rex Gardiner open space.
Motion passed unanimously: history committee recommends town council approve a marker (plaque)
with suitable verbiage recognizing Rex Gardiner’s contributions as a founding father of Los Altos Hills.
Committee doesn’t understand how town council enforces Appendix A, which designates “historic
properties” for Los Altos Hills. Seeking for better understanding. John Swan suggest using the one-room
schoolhouse as a first project to create the property conservation process.
Old Business:
Time capsule – Mary Ann heading the table at the town picnic (Saturday, June 5, 1-4:30) discussing time
capsule and having residents fill it out. If residents bring items for the capsule the committee will
evaluate what can be included. Still considering which month to seal the capsule
LAH History Anthology – John Swan communicated that the conversation is ongoing. Nick reiterated his
position from previous meetings that the requested $5,000 should be provided to Alex Atkins as
requested for the LAH Anthology without constraints as it seemed that was his intent.
Annual Fall Presentation: Kim Cranston – Art committee doesn’t want artwork on walls for event. Use
easels and put his art on them instead of the walls.
Farm Equipment – Bridget is having a neighbor come out and look at the equipment and evaluate
condition
New Business:
Plans for expenditures with History Committee Funds – Mayor John Harpootlian – discussing the funds
previously approved by the city council on January 2015. He suggests providing a list of projects to
spend funds which includes developing community support around project. Committee responded by
asking about the urgency. John’s view is we should spend the money right away, not sit on it since that
was the intent of the town council. Process: spending must be approved by town council. John says the
History Committee is lacking on “priority projects”. The committee isn’t “taking action” as requested by
the town council in 2015. (DEBORAH – John is going to email you his notes to be included in the
minutes)
Adjournment: 5:26pm, next meeting, June 21st
