Minutes of Tuesday, Tuesday, April 16, 2019 3:30 PM Regular Meeting

Present at the Meeting: Nobuko Cleary, Carol Gottlieb, Carol Grewal, Sylvia Jensen, Sally

Guest: Kjell Karlson, Karen Lemes, and Les Earnest
Absent—May Davenport, Jitze Couperus
1. The meeting was called to order at 3:40 PM.
2. Presentations from the floor.
Les Earnest made a presentation about his concerns related to Appendix A and other
historical documents. He stated that corrections were needed for errors of fact and
inconsistencies with municipal code. He agreed to document the items needing correction
and provide this documentation to the committee. The tentative time frame was expected
to be about a month.
3. Minutes for Meeting of February 19, 2019 and March 19, 2019 meetings.
Minutes from the March 19 meeting were not available and will be reviewed at the next
meeting.
A few corrections for the February 19 minutes were needed. These will be reviewed at
the next meeting
4. Old Business:
a.)Hills Bros Green House article: Anne Duwe wrote the article.
b.)Heritage House article: The Los Altos History Museum had an article on the Heritage
House.
c.)History talk and slide presentation by Jitze Couperus: This talk went very well and
further discussion will wait until Jitze can return and reports in person.
d.)1958 general Plan: This is still in progress.
e.)Cataloging files: Several members volunteered to work on this over the summer.
f.)New members: The committee discussed the need to encourage applicants for open
committee positions.
g.)Mills Act: It was suggested that Saratoga could be used as a model.
h.)Goals for 2019: Several possibilities were discussed
i.Another history walk in the fall
ii.Assessment of the current files available and definition of what we would like to
have in the files.
iii.itemize the current off-site locations of plaques, books, documents, and other
materials for which there is no on-site storage available.
iv.Restart oral histories
5. New Business
a.)Fall Presentation: The fall presentation is schedule of September 29, 2019 and title will
be “The Tales of Moody Road”. Sherlock and Tom McReynolds will be asked to speak
about Moody Road history and events.
b.)A history walk is planned for the fall.
c.)A tree crushed the Captain Mex Fruit Shed which was the temporary home for our first
school. There is significant damage.
d.)We hope to put up a plaque at 14120 Miranda and present it to the council.
e.)The report to the council will be planned for the third Thursday in June.
f.)Carol Gottlieb attended the Los Altos/Los Altos Hills exhibit on emergency
preparedness.
6. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
