Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 9:00 am. The minutes of the December 18th meeting were approved as written. 2. Introductions/Presentations/Guests: None 3. Current Business:  Sudden Oak Death The Town Council approved the OSC’s request of $250 for the Oak Mortality Task Force. Roger will check with Karen Jost on how payment should be made. Patty and Roger will come up with language for the signs in Byrne Preserve advising residents that when hiking on trails during the rainy season they need to take precautions and avoid trails where SOD has been confirmed.  O’Keefe Open Space Preserve Nancy will check back with Shelterbelt Builders on progress with their Report. At the Hidden Villa meeting on “Sustainability in the Hills” representatives from Bullis Charter thought that students might be interested in becoming involved in a restoration project. Wanny Hersey, principal of Bullis Charter, in an e-mail to Nancy indicated a strong interest in working on watershed restoration.  General Plan Update Richard summarized the points he thought should be included in the Land Use Element. A meeting is expected sometime in February at which time the OSC will be able to make a presentation. Next meeting: February 19, 2008 9:00 am – Kitchen Conference Room Page 2 of 2  Byrne Preserve Master Plan/Pasture Usage The LAHOSC authorized Patty Ciesla to buy three weed wrenches of different sizes for invasive weed removal.  Fencing Alice is collecting information from local communities on fencing regulations. Alice mentioned that Saratoga in particular had some very good regulations.  Water Conservation Update No news to report.  Herbicide Reduction Karen Lemes received an e-mail from Town Manager, Carl Cahill, stating that “Pursuant to Municipal Code Section 12-2.201, the Town does not generally maintain road right of ways for weeds. The ordinance states that this is the responsibility of the abutting property owner. The primary administrative exception is for manual weed removal directly on Type IIB roadside pathway surfaces and where the Open Space Committee recommends limited spraying in designated areas to control certain invasive weeds such as stinkweed.”  Riparian Corridor Policy Nancy will take the lead on putting together an informational meeting in April on “Bringing Back the Birds to Bay Area Streams.”  Orr Property Staff has told the OSC that the issue of the lot line adjustment is getting closer to resolution. The OSC should plan a site visit to look at the fencing on the property. NEW BUSINESS: “Sustainability in the Hills” – collaboration with Hidden Villa. A number of events are planned for the month of April in Los Altos Hills. The informational meeting on creek habitat and bringing back the birds is being co-sponsored by the OSC and Hidden Villa.
