The Town Council approved the OSC’s request of $250 for the Oak Mortality
Task Force. Roger will check with Karen Jost on how payment should be
made.
Patty and Roger will come up with language for the signs in Byrne Preserve
advising residents that when hiking on trails during the rainy season they need to
take precautions and avoid trails where SOD has been confirmed.
O’Keefe Open Space Preserve
Nancy will check back with Shelterbelt Builders on progress with their
Report.
At the Hidden Villa meeting on “Sustainability in the Hills” representatives from
Bullis Charter thought that students might be interested in becoming involved in a
restoration project. Wanny Hersey, principal of Bullis Charter, in an e-mail to
Nancy indicated a strong interest in working on watershed restoration.

Element. A meeting is expected sometime in February at which time the OSC

Byrne Preserve Master Plan/Pasture Usage
The LAHOSC authorized Patty Ciesla to buy three weed wrenches of different
sizes for invasive weed removal.
Fencing
Alice is collecting information from local communities on fencing regulations.
Alice mentioned that Saratoga in particular had some very good regulations.
Water Conservation Update
No news to report.
Herbicide Reduction
Karen Lemes received an e-mail from Town Manager, Carl Cahill, stating that
“Pursuant to Municipal Code Section 12-2.201, the Town does not generally
maintain road right of ways for weeds. The ordinance states that this is the
responsibility of the abutting property owner. The primary administrative
exception is for manual weed removal directly on Type IIB roadside pathway
surfaces and where the Open Space Committee recommends limited spraying in
designated areas to control certain invasive weeds such as stinkweed.”
Riparian Corridor Policy
Nancy will take the lead on putting together an informational meeting in April
on “Bringing Back the Birds to Bay Area Streams.”
Orr Property
Staff has told the OSC that the issue of the lot line adjustment is getting closer
to resolution. The OSC should plan a site visit to look at the fencing on the
property.
NEW BUSINESS:
“Sustainability in the Hills” – collaboration with Hidden Villa. A number of
events are planned for the month of April in Los Altos Hills. The informational
meeting on creek habitat and bringing back the birds is being co-sponsored by
the OSC and Hidden Villa.
