1. Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am. Roger has not written up minutes of the
October meeting but will do so before the next meeting.
2. Introductions/Presentations/Guests: None
3. Ongoing Business:
Sudden Oak Death
Sue announced that LAH will be participating in a “SOD-Blitz” on May 9, 2009.
The free community event will give residents an opportunity to learn if their trees
have SOD and how to manage them. Six weeks beforehand a postcard will be
sent to all residents advising them of the SOD-Blitz. Signs may also be posted
around Town. Sue passed out an information sheet detailing the process.
Patty pointed out that the moss on the oaks in Byrne Preserve appears to have
been killed by the SOD spraying. She will contact Mark Stanley of the
COMTF about this and report back.
Byrne Preserve
Nancy reported on the use of an ATV owned by Westwind Barn to round up the
horses in Byrne Preserve. She sent an e-mail to the Barn Manager and Parks &
Recreation Director pointing out the problems in doing this. There was no
response to the e-mail. The OSC members felt that a letter needed to be sent to
the Town Manager advising him that the OSC was strongly opposed to the use of
an ATV in an open space preserve. A motion was made and was passed
unanimously directing the Chair to advise the Town Manager of its
opposition to this practice.
Sue brought up the issue of the lighting of the Barn at night. Apparently the lights
are not down-lit as Town ordinances require. Sue will discuss this with
neighbor Nick Dunckel and Town Engineer Richard Chiu.

Riparian/Water/Creek Projects
Susan Mandle recapped what has occurred in Adobe Creek with the restoration.
Susan would like to request Town help, on the heels of the restoration work, to
create a continuous band of vegetation along the creek bank in Edith Park. Susan
is willing to put a plan together for the creek restoration in Edith Park.
Nancy recommended that the plan should be presented to the Parks & Recreation
Committee for their approval, since Edith Park’s land-use designation is
“recreation.” A subcommittee – Sue, Jean, and Susan – will assist in the plan.
Additionally, there has been a compaction of the area near the path construction.
Gravel will need to be removed and ground cover planted. Sue will take this to
the Pathway Committee of which she is a member.
Jean recommended putting the logs back that had been removed. This would
prevent vehicles from parking in this area.
O’Keefe
Town Engineer, Richard Chiu, has requested a meeting with OSC members
concerning the Shelterbelt Report on O’Keefe. Sue, Patty, Jean and Nancy agreed
to meet with Richard and will propose a meeting be held on Thursday, December
4th. Nancy will set up the meeting.
Planning/Development
Roger and Sue visited the property on Edgerton, which should have an open space
easement on the steep portion of the property. OSC members strongly
recommend a “mild and contoured pathway.” Sue will pass this recommenda-
tion along to the Pathway Committee.
Deer Issues
Because of the lack of time, this topic has been deferred until the next meeting.
Alice has gathered information from various agencies and will present it at
the December meeting.
