HomeMy WebLinkAboutOctober 21Next meeting: November 18, 2010 8:40 am – Council Chambers Page 1 of 4 Los Altos Hills Open Space Committee Meeting Minutes of October 21, 2010 (Actions Items Printed in Bold) Present: Nancy Couperus, Karen Lemes, Alice Sakamoto, Sharen Schoendorf, Jean Struthers, Wendie Ward Regrets: Roger Spreen, Sue Welch Guests: Ginger Summit Staff: none 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 8:40 am. The minutes of the special meeting were distributed to the Committee but were not approved – an oversight! 2. Introductions/Presentations/Guests: None 3. Ongoing Business  Hidden Villa Update Karen and Nancy provided an update on Hidden Villa/Heifer. The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society has taken a supportive position. SCVAS opposes the encroachment into the 150 ft setback. Karen reported that all three Council candidates opposed the location of Heifer next to Adobe Creek. Individuals are encouraged to speak to the Board of Supervisors under Public Comment. Ultimately, it may be the Board, which will decide this issue. A walk along the creek was proposed for Friday afternoon at 4 pm. Jean, Nancy, Alice, Karen, and Wendie will meet at Hidden Villa. Jean, Wendie, Nancy, along with Libby Lucas, were interested in attending the next Santa Clara Valley Water District meeting to hear further discussion about riparian setbacks. Next meeting: November 18, 2010 8:40 am – Council Chambers Page 2 of 4  Edith Park Nothing new to report.  Planning – 23515 Ravensbury Roger has sent comments to the Town on this development. It was recommended that the area with native vegetation and trees be designated as an open space easement.  Open Space Properties Nothing new to report 4.. New Business  Mary Davey in memoriam A memorial service for Mary has been scheduled for Saturday, November 20th in the afternoon. The location has not been determined.  Possible forums for upcoming year Three forums were proposed for the coming year: Septic systems – new technologies. Karen will look into the speaker who Mary Davey had referred us to from MROSD. The month of February was suggested as a possible time to schedule this. Deer – Because of comments made at the recent candidate forum about “the deer explosion” the Committee discussed the possibility of holding a forum on deer as part of the Living with Wildlife Series, perhaps in March. Wildland fires – how to manage hillsides for fire control. Nancy attended a meeting on this subject in Portola Valley. She thought it might be an interesting subject for the Los Altos Hills community in late spring. OPEN DISCUSSION: There was no remaining time for discussion. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am.
