HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 21Next meeting: August 18, 2011 8:40 am – Council Chambers Page 1 of 4 Los Altos Hills Open Space Committee Meeting Minutes of July 21, 2011 (Actions Items Printed in Bold) Present: Nancy Couperus, Karen Lemes, Alice Sakamoto, Sharen Schoendorf, Jean Struthers, Wendie Ward Regrets: George Clifford, Roger Spreen, Sue Welch Guests: Council member Gary Waldeck, MROSD representative, Yoriko Kishimoto, Susan Mandle, Staff: None 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 8:40 am. The minutes of the June meeting were approved . 2. Introductions/Presentations/Guests: None 3. New Business  Committee Officer Selection - Deferred to the August meeting due to Chair’s absence  Polystyrene Contamination - Deferred to August meeting due to George Clifford’s absence 4. Current Business  Wildlife Issues The OSC reviewed Roger’s proposed letter to Council recommending adoption of the wildlife corridor map for use as a planning tool. OSC members agreed that the letter was excellent. A suggestion was made to include a sentence or two in the introduction explaining that corridor mapping is a regional and state undertaking – not one just confined to Los Altos Hills. Yoriko offered to research some key studies and websites supporting this. She will forward this information to the Committee. Next meeting: August 18, 2011 8:40 am – Council Chambers Page 2 of 4 Nancy asked Gary if he would place this on the agenda for the September Council meeting. Gary agreed to do that.  Ad Hoc Committee on Fencing Nothing new to report from the Ad Hoc Committee. Alice has submitted an article for the Town Newsletter on deer. It includes some information about deer and fencing.  Stanford/Arastradero Trail – Nothing new to report  Mary Davey Memorial – Nothing new to report  Land & Creek Management Yoriko reported that a Watershed Summit is being planned for September of 2012. Yoriko, Linda LeZotte and Brian Schmidt are involved in the planning. OSC members are encouraged to participate. Adobe Creek – Edith Park. After some lobbying and a presentation at the SCVWD board meeting, the Water District agreed that the Town’s proposal should be re-scored. While the grant proposal has now qualified, this does not mean that the Town will receive funding, but rather that the proposal will be considered.  Lehigh Quarry – Nothing new to report  Open Space Easements Nancy distributed a 4-page document on open space easements. Much of the information in the document was drawn from previous work on this. Nancy recommended that a subcommittee be created to fine-tune the document and to present it in a format that is easy to understand.  Planning Topics – None were discussed 5. Open Discussion There was no time for additional discussion. The next meeting will be held on August 18, 2011.
