ABBREVIATED MINUTES FROM MEETING OF OCTOBER 19, 2015.
• Meeting called to order at 7pm.
- Subsequent arrivals: 7:12pm - Julie. 7:20 pm - Gary. 7:30 pm - Lakshmi
• Roger is proofing/editing trifold flyer before finalization.
• Julie Arnheim is looking into insurance considerations (checking with other communities) for
the “Blue" Sculpture in Edith park, and in general for others.
• Committee has Postponed our Annual Report to Council until February 2016.
• The 60th Annual Dinner/Dance Gala will take place at the LAG&CC on January 30th. All are
invited!
• Our two (will be three) Resource Books are available at the Front Desk in Town Hall.
• You are welcome to participate in adding to these resource books.
• Note RE Donations: Donators become part of the energy of arts in our community, and they are
both inspired and become part of the inspiration
• Mention of Los Altos’ "Art in Display”
• Karen discussed an annual review of sculptures.
• Roger will talk to Deborah about each type of art needing a different kind of maintainance
• Discussion of "Artist's Rights - and how to properly document the contracting and “turn-over”
of art pieces:
- Definition of “The Art”
- Unveiling of The Art (beginning next with “Blue"
- The need to properly take over the Art, Insure and Maintain, and define what is the Artist's
role then and thereafter.
• Louise Aldrich is an expert on Artist Rights, and will be contacted.
• Once we accept the piece of Art it will become “ours” - Town property - absent a Loan
or “Recovery” Agreement, duly in place.
• Gail will get Cantor Art Center’s “Artist Rights” documentation for us to study.
• Julie will get in touch with Los Altos, Napa, Palo Alto, etc. and study their insurance policies
• Roger stated we need insurance, a policy out “proximity” and “reproduction.”
- Mention of placing a “chip" on the piece of art so it can be identified.
• New title for the Committee: The Los Altos Hills Public Art Committee was voted to be the
new title
• A well-known Palo Alto businesswoman, Nancy Mueller, was the donator of the
sculpture “Chocolate” which was fully approved by the Council, but has been taken back by her
daughter.
- Nonetheless, the artist is standing by to craft a replica for us. It will now require a
separate funding/donation.
- Examples of creative (including whimsical) names for this replica could include:
chocolate, tasty treat, tasty chocolate, smile, mouth-watering , etc
• Alan Osborne is preparing to install Blue sculpture in Edith Park. Currently in Ohio on a 2-
week assignment.
• Karen is going to have an article in the newspaper to promote and stimulate our accepting
donations of art
• Update: Council has recently agreed to accept checks a form of donations into our art fund.
• Blue will be the 4th piece of art to be installed (five have been approved; one was returned, and
the other cancelled, as indicated above).
• We cannot accept shares of stocks, as per report from Gary Waldeck
• Roger will contact Megan Winslow about the forthcoming installation and dedication of the art
piece known as “Blue.”
• Karen has been checking art studios in Carmel, and the Committee is planning a field trip there
in Spring 2016.
