Options were based on budget specs. - Members voted to give Karen the Large-sized, "Erika"-style vase. - Engraving space is limited. Sentiment options that members would like to see on the vase included: - "Karen Druker, With heartfelt thanks!, LAH Public Art Committee, 2016" - "Karen Druker, With appreciation, LAH Public Art Committee, 2016" - Timeline quoted by Recognition Source to complete engraving/shipping: 7-10 days - RB made a motion to proceed with the selected recognition vase. GS seconded. ACTION: Roger Burnell will contact Recognition Source to place the order (including providing a design spec) for the Committee's desired crystal vase (large-size, "Erika"-style) & engraving text sentiment ASAP. For completion of the vase by early November 2016. Review Prior Sculpture Acquisition Status - "Blue": - Per Roger Burnell, the fabricator, Alan Osborne, has delivered discrete, raw and unpainted pieces for the sculpture to the donor but has not assembled them into the contracted & paid-in-full sculpture that was committed for delivery to LAH within 1st Q 2016. - Legal proceedings have been initiated against Mr. Osborne by RB & counsel. Review of Committee Proposed Acquisitions (Gustavson & Starks Sculptures) & Siting: - Roger Burnell reviewed the documentation he will present to City Council members for approval on Oct. 20, 2016. For each proposed sculpture acquisition he's noted costs, 3 possible placement sites the Committee considered & rationale for each. Visual in situ placement simulations for each piece are included. LAH PAC members were invited to attend the Oct. 20 presentation. RA - 10/11/16 - LAH PAC 2 Discussion of Active Donorship Status: A $40K anonymous donation was received, and was accepted by the LAH Town Council & earmarked for spending on public art, September 2016. Approximately 1/2 that amount will be spent on the 3 sculptures noted above. A series of additional sculptures by Mr. Starks ("Runners") are under consideration by the Committee for use of the remaining funds; as are kinetic sculptures by sculptor Frederick Prescott (formerly of Palo Alto). Off-Campus Site Selection Sub-Committee Status: Gail Solomon reported - no progress to date. Land being considered on Elena Road may not belong to the Town. GS expressed a desire for temporary, eco art there but did not recommend artists/works to consider at this time. ACTION: GS will work with the sub-committee to enlist assistance in researching art/artist options (sub-committee members - Farah T, Julie A). Marketing Flyer Sub-Committee Status: Robyn Aber reported - distributed a summary report re: details of the Sept. 2016 meeting (sub-committee members - Oana Olteanu, Gail Solomon, Roger Burnell, RA). Report details included: Objectives of the flyer, target audience, messaging & image content, proposed production method, distribution channels & timing for completion (1st Q 2017). PAC members were asked & provided inputs on these topics during the readout. The sub-committee report is attached as an Addendum to these Notes. ACTION: Sub-committee will draft a mockup flyer for PAC input & quote solicitation for the Dec. 2016 LAH PAC mtg. Investigate means to conduct a town survey/poll to identify the most effective distribution sources for the flyer (Next Door, other?). New Sculpture Options - Frederick Prescott Kinetic Sculptures: Robyn Aber shared a full-color catalog of sculptures by this artist with LAH PAC members. His work was exhibited at the recent Los Altos Fine Art in the Park juried art show. RA highlighted sculpture designs from his portfolio that pertain to LAH, & recommended considering them for off Town Hall campus placement. Members found the sculptures "whimsical," "delightful," and appealing. GS expressed a preference for acquiring non-sustainable, eco art. Per Prescott, their sculptures can be "public art-proofed" (with locking & bolting mechanisms) and can be finished in ways that require low maintenance & colored or designed to the acquirer's taste. RB made a motion to continue discussions of these sculptures. SN seconded. ACTION: RB requested LAH PAC members review the Prescott catalog and submit their votes for sculptures that may be of interest to RA before the Dec. 2016 meeting. PAC will discuss a subset of options as a full committee at that time.
