Robyn declined (due to time commitments) - instead, offered to serve as 'Vice-Chair' - with other members serving as Chair or Co-Chairs. Farah is open to serving as 'Co-Chair' with someone else. RB ACTION: Contact Stacey Newman to see if she'd serve as 'Chair' or 'Co-Chair' with Farah. Members agreed to continue handling the Secretary position on a rotating basis. Status/next steps for recruiting new Committee members to replace 3 who resigned during 2016-17 was raised by members. Members decided to postpone final slate of officers decision until August 2017 meeting. 2 Next Steps Donated/Installed Sculpture (Blue) & 3 Newly Purchased Sculptures: Blue - Donor plaque will be installed on rock near sculpture in the coming week coordinated by RB. Base of sculpture may be painted with protective material quoted to last 20 years. Benches will be stained to protect their finish. RB stated foliage around the parklet will require regular trimming to maintain sculpture visibility & parklet aesthetics. Maintenance plan must be filed with Town staff. 3 Newly Acquired Sculptures (one Starks, two Gustavson) - Attending members did a Town Hall site walk, led by RB, to see concrete bases poured for each new sculpture. RB explained the need for bases to cure for 7-10 days before art install. Shared his thoughts on considerations for directional positioning of sculptures, signage placement (once designs ok'd by Town Council), need for ongoing maintenance of surrounding landscaping (including recommending a replacement tree on circle near walkways to Town Hall to match surrounding trees), and noted how the current cement bases will be cut to fit exact base sizes of Gustavson sculptures. Events Related to 3 New Sculptures - * 7/17/17 - Mon., 11am - Installation of Starks and Gustavson sculptures on Town Hall campus * 8/3/17 - Thurs., 5pm - Reception; 5:30pm - Dedication of Starks & Gustavson sculptures @ Town Hall. RB ACTION: Handle PR & notify Deborah Padovan (Town Clerk) ASAP A maintenance plan should be recorded in Town Hall for each of the 3 new sculptures after they are installed, along with info on the sculpture fund's donor and background on the sculptures and artists. New Public Art Proposals: Farah presented a binder of sculptures from Amos Robinson, artist. Kinetic metal sculptures that several members suggested as possible options for LAH after viewing at Los Altos' 2017 Fine Art in the Park. Attendees discussed kinetic bicycle designs (espec. "Abstract Racer") for potential Bullis School (Fremont Ave) placement. Attending members preferred bicycle sculpture designs with wheels that included multiple powder-coated colors vs a flat single color. Discussed ways to customize sculptures to suit a school placement (backpack on rider, stack of colored books on basket added to basic sculpture shape, etc.). Members also potentially interested in Robinson's "Revelation" sculpture. Not figurative. Farah asked RB about budget availability to purchase a Robinson sculpture (per members' previous May-June 2017 budget clarification requests). No definitive response from RB re: current budget status. Impression given that $40K funds donated/earmarked for sculpture acquisitions in the past year may have been spent on items other than 3 newly acquired sculptures. Requires clarification of $40K budget line item debits and current account total. 3 Costs for proposed Robinson kinetic bike sculpture = Basic with 20" wheels (~$10K). Customized with books, school logos, etc. (+ ~$1-2K). Stainless steel pole upon which to mount the sculpture (+ ~$1-2K). Plus, expenses to clear land, install base & sculpture, signage development, etc. Likely total in the ~ $17-18K range (roughly same price range as the quoted, discounted for PAC price for medium-sized kinetic Frederick Prescott sculptures discussed by PAC in early 2017). ACTION: Farah, Robyn, Roger planned potential site visit @ Bullis School for Thurs., 7/13/17 5:20pm re: placement options for bike sculpture. To present for committee discussion & consideration at a future meeting. Robyn will photograph sites for members' ref. ACTION: Sourcing & donorship discussion tabled. RB suggested Robyn "re-convene her little marketing committee in Sept. 2017 that she started in Sept. 2016 (for purposes of initiating creation of a PAC Marketing Flyer) to solicit donations to acquire art." Scouting New Art Options: Roger suggested the Committee consider a field trip to Sculpturesite Gallery (Glen Ellen) to scope out other potential sculpture options for LAH Town lands. Kjell enthusiastically suggested the Committee view sculptures he saw on a private property off Story Hill Lane. KK ACTION: Kjell will supply photo or additional info on location of the baseball sculpture he saw to Committee members at a future meeting. Jordan (community guest invited by Gail Solomon) left meeting without any discussion of potential F- H College involvement re: artwork design by students raised by the Committee. Next Meeting: August 14, 2017 @ 7pm (Parks & Rec bldg) Meeting Adjourned: 8:40pm Submitted by: Robyn Aber, PAC Member (July 14, 2017)
