HomeMy WebLinkAboutJune 18Los Altos Hills History Committee Minutes Meeting Date & Time: Tuesday June 18, 2019 @ 3:40 p.m. Meeting Place: Parks & Recreation Building 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, California In attendance: Carol Gottlieb, Jitze Couperus, Sally Wood, Carol Grewal, & Linda Swan (Associate Member) and guest Barry Smith Absent: Nobuko Cleary, May Davenport, Sylvia Jensen Presentations from the Floor: None Approval of Minutes: May 21, 2019—Approved. Linda to send to Deborah. Old Business •Hills Brothers Coffee Greenhouse—Article for Newspaper—Correction that greenhouse was built by the founder of Hills Brothers, not the grandson •History Talk and Slide Presentation by Jitze—Epic Fights, such as our zoning? Jitze will give talk again, perhaps through Parks and Recreation group. Will fill out request form. •1958 General Plan and 1963 General Plan Research—Carol trying to find 1963 Pathways map. •Cataloguing the files to be more user friendly—Sally has been inventorying files. 30% of history area has been inventoried. Carol has more info at home. •Two New Members Needed—Contact people who know or are very interested in history of the town, such as Barry Smith, Karen Lemes, Joan Sherlock. •Mills Act—Carol has more info on the Mills Act. •Fall Presentation—Tales of Moody Road. Joe Kleitman is away, so don’t know about him. So far we have Tom McReynolds (on Town Council at the time of closing of Adobe Lodge), Joan Sherlock (grew up in area), and Karen Lemes on the program. Need one line teaser for poster. •Fall History Walk—Magdalena/Stonebrook area around the quarry. Sylvia Jensen to be in charge of organizing. Morgan Manor—ask owner if we can go on grounds for the walk. •June 20 Report to Council has been changed to July or August. •Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Exhibit on Emergency Preparedness •Report on Booth at June 2 Town Picnic—Quite a few people stopped by. People put pins on map and marked how long they have lived in town. New Business •History Essay Contests—Sally put 1000 word article in contest. It may be published in newsletter. Will report more at next meeting on how San Mateo County handles this. Maybe we can do something similar. •St. Luke’s (Chapel in the Hills) Flagpole—Flagpole is now a cellular tower repeater. Cell company wants to take it down and replace it with tree-type cell tower. It is not the original flagpole. Has a bronze plaque at the bottom. Should put the old flagpole back or one like it and put new bronze plaque there. •Need new chairperson for committee. Carol has been chair for two years. Adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
