HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-22RESOLUTION 89-22 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CHANGE OF A MOTORCYCLE DEPUTY TO A PATROL VEHICLE WHEREAS, on July 1, 2014 the Town of Los Altos Hills entered into an agreement with the Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff for law enforcement services; and WHEREAS, on August 18, 2022 the City Council received a presentation from the Sheriff on the differences between a motorcycle and a patrol car and how law enforcement hours are currently split between monitoring traffic and responding to calls for service; and WHEREAS, it was explained that deputies working in Town could take one of the following three options: Option 1: Continue to fund a motor deputy and focus on traffic matters and complaints Option 2: Continue to have a traffic deputy, but instead of a motorcycle, use a motor vehicle. Option 3: Discontinue the use of a traffic deputy and replace that with a patrol deputy.; and WHEREAS, City Council passed a motion to institute Option 2 — continue to have a traffic deputy in Town, but instead of a motorcycle, use a motor vehicle; and WHEREAS, there is no fiscal impact related to authorizing this change. The hourly rate for a motorcycle and a patrol car are the same. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills hereby authorizes the City Manager to work with the Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff to change the motorcycle deputy in Town to a patrol vehicle.
