HomeMy WebLinkAbout40-23RESOLUTION 40-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS NAMING A TOWN PATHWAY THAT CONNECTS CENTRAL DRIVE WITH MOODY COURT AS THE ART LACHENBRUCH PATH WHEREAS, Art Lachenbruch (1925-2021) is a world-renowned geophysicist with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), who was also one of the most influential planning commissioners in the Town and an early and ardent supporter of pedestrian and equestrian pathways; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lachenbruch served as a Town's planning commissioner for more than a decade beginning in 1970, and he developed the slope density equation that the Town and many other cities use to protect hillsides from developments; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lachenbruch played a key role in the redesign of the hot -oil pipeline crossing the frozen permafrost of Alaska in the early 1970's, saving Alaska and the country from a potential ecological disaster; and WHEREAS, he was elected into the National Academy of Sciences for his work in 1975; and WHEREAS, Art and Edie Lachenbruch moved to Buena Vista Drive in Los Altos Hills in 1961 and lived there for 47 years, raising three children; and WHEREAS, the Pathways Committee is recommending that a Town pathway from Central Drive to Moody Court be named after him in his honor. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills does hereby name the Town pathway that connects Central Drive with Moody Court as the Art Lachenbruch Path. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills at a regular meeting held on the 20th day of April 2023 by the following vote: AYES: Swan, Mok, Schmidt, Tyson NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: Tankha ATTEST: Deborah L.
