HomeMy WebLinkAbout114-06 • �r RESOLUTION NO. 114-06 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS CLARIFYING RESOLUTION NO. 42-06, TO REAFFIRM SUPPORT FOR REORGANIZATION THAT MAINTAINS CURRENT ATTENDANCE PRIVILEGES WITHIN THE PALO ALTO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR 9TH THROUGH 12TH GRADE STUDENTS WHEREAS, on June 8, 2006, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills adopted Resolution No. 42-06; and WHEREAS, the City Council, via Resolution No. 42-06, petitioned the Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization to grant the Town's petition and: 1) Develop a tentative plan for creation of a K-8 school district within the Town of Los Altos Hills that satisfies all legal requirements for the reorganization of school districts; 2) Define the boundaries of such elementary district to include as much of the territory of the Town of Los Altos Hills as the County Committee deems feasible and appropriate to satisfy all legal requirements; 3) Work with the State Board of Education and all affected school districts to design appropriate waivers and/or special legislation to ensure that the children of the new elementary school district feed into Palo Alto Unified School District or the Mountain View Los Altos High Union High School District, as of right, pursuant to current attendance patterns for grades 9-12. If that arrangement is deemed by the County Committee to be impossible through waiver, special legislation, or practice; then the arrangement shall result in creating an LAH K-8 School District with high school services provided by PAUSD; ,,:4) Hold public hearings and study the tentative plan for the creation of a Los Altos Hills School District pursuant to sections 35721 and 35720, et seq.; 5) Approve such tentative reorganizing plan; and 6) Send such tentative plan to the State Board of Education for its review and approval. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills does RESOLVE as follows: The Los Altos Hills City Council hereby declares the following important clarification to its previously approved request to the Santa Clara County Office of Education Committee on 873375-1 4 I/ District Reorganization: We reaffirm our support for creating a Los Altos Hills Kindergarten through 8th grade school district consistent with our earlier insistence on access to and attendance at Gunn High School in the Palo Alto Unified School District for those students who reside in the area of Los Altos Hills presently served by Palo Alto Unified School District. We express opposition for any reorganization that does not maintain current attendance privileges to the Palo Alto Unified School District for 9th-12th grade students residing within the area of Los Altos Hills presently served by the Palo Alto UnifiedySchool LVD__ DDistrict.
