COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Parks & Recreation Committee - ::`airman Gordon E. Bowler.
.....airman Bowler reported his Committee was unable to convene on April 1246
for reason of a lack of a quorum, however, three substantial pieces of
information were received - 1) a leiter from Mr. Mel kidneletti, Chairman
of tae Los Altos Hills Little League Recreation Committee (read by
Chairman Bowler) indicating their needs and desires for multiple use of
grounds and facilities, 2) a letter from Preston 0. Burchard, Chairman of
Tree Committee (read by Chairman Bowler), repeating their support for
the school district land and point of view as to its landscaping, as well
as recommending acquisition of all available parcels bet,een the school
district land and Stanford along the Freeway as strategic open space and
planting area, and 3) Mr. Morse's report on his conversation 'with Mr. P.
Ahern, Business Manager of the Los Altos School District, relative to the
use of the school grounds at Eastbrook, Bullis and Purissima Schools by tie
Little League.
In view of the Planning Commission's vital interest, Chairman Bowler. was
o^ the opinion further committee meetings and recommendations would not be
significant but that it would be sufficient to bring these substantial
pieces of information as they stand to the Commission. Chairman Bowler
stated Us Committee would appreciate Planning Cortmission di5ca3sion„and

direction regarding 1) aspect of Little League facilities per se, and
2) the Palo alto School District parcel of land, which might be acquired.
Discussion ensued as to the use of the school grounds in t.9 Los Altos
Sc:,00l District. It appeared that most of the facilities (restrooms,
shelter, parking space, etc.) asked for by the Little League Committee
was met by the school pro72rty andwould lend itself to multiple use and
that maintenance is already paid for by the Community Service tax; however,
distance to the 3astbrook School was discussed as a possible objection.
Tz Palo Alto School property on Purissima Road was discussed as to site
development costs, maintenance, landscaping and possible hidden costs.
Commissioner 3cwler also pointedout tie ppssibiliny of an alternative of
this site providing six one -acre homesites with landscaping by the owners
rather than the Town paying for site maintenance.
Comaissioner BaPler stated two alternatives are developing: 1) investigate
has wuch money is involved in developing the Palo Alto School District
site and 2) obtain more specifics about the use of the school grounds and
whether it will be necessary to participate in developing the facilities
there; then present the expressly outlined alternatives to to Little
League for their pro and con arguments.
The City Panager offered to make a study of the site developed according
to the Little League requirements and the possibility of a. lease with
the Palo Alto School District; 4owever, due to press of other Staff
hov matters, requested his report be submitted in 30 days. Following
discussion, it was felt this delay would not jeopardize any negotiations
wit,: the Palo Alto School District.

1. Sottendorff, Oscar A. (V-274-67) - Request for Setback Reduction for
Pool and Garage, continued. from 4/10/67 meeting.
City "anager reported a survey had been made of the County and six
surrounding cities as to how a setback is determined for a pool and that
the concensus is measurement from the water line. Since the Town Ordinance
requires measurement from the beginning of the structure, the City Manager
recommended our ordinances be amended to conform wit', the County and
surrounding cities and that the City Attorney draw up such an amendment
for the Comwission's consideration. Planning Commission concurred.
Ar, Bettendorff's letter dated April 20, 1567 was read by Staff, in which
ho stated he had submitted a revised map showing exact locations of new
structures, reasons promoting degrca of 'ardship, and plan For additional
