RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS COMMEMORATING THE
75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY WATER DISTRICT
WHEREAS,for the last 75 years,the Santa Clara Valley Water District has acted as the
steward for Santa Clara County's water resources and worked to ensure that creek ecosystems are
healthy,that there was enough clean,safe water for homes and businesses,and has protected
valley residents from devastating floods;and
WHEREAS,the District has an established history of providing public service that
protects the water resources in Santa Clara County,promotes public health,the livability and
desirability of the County,the local economic base and environment;and
WHEREAS,in November 2000,Santa Clara County voters overwhelmingly supported
the District-sponsored ballot measure that created a countywide special parcel tax to fund the
Clean,Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Program;and
WHEREAS,the Clean,Safe Creeks Program provides protection to 13,600 homes,43
schools and other public facilities, 1,040 businesses,and 220 miles of streets and highways from
flooding and erosion through nine capital improvement projects,sediment-removal projects and
maintenance of newly improved creeks;and
WHEREAS,in 2004 the District,along with staff representatives of the County of Santa
Clara,the cities in Santa Clara County,the Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District,
the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board,various business and development
interests,environmental,property owner,and community interests have formed andare members
of the Santa Clara Valley Water Resources Protection Collaborative in order to share the water
and watershed resources protection goals of flood management,drinking water quality and
adequate quantity,surface and groundwater quality and quantity,and habitat protection and
enhancement;and
'WHEREAS,in January 2005,the completion of the Guadalupe River Park and Flood
Protection Project,a joint effort of the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers,the Santa Clara Valley
Water District,the City of San Jose,and the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Jose,is
nationally recognized as a model in combining effective flood protection,habitat enhancement
and restoration,and recreation in an urban area;and
WHEREAS,the District will continue to strive to ensure that there is a healthy and safe
environment for residents and visitors by comprehensively managing water resources in a
practical,cost-effective,and environmentally sensitive manner.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
LOS ALTOS HILLS AS FOLLOWS:
The Town of Los Altos Hills hereby commemorates the 7511i anniversary of the Santa Clara
Valley Water District
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of December,2005 by the following vote,to wit:
AYES: Mayor Kerr,Mayor Pro Tem Warshawsky,Councilmember Jones,
Councilmember Mordo and Councilmember O'Malle
