RESOLUTION 61-12
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS AUTHORIZING
RECLASSIFICATION OF THE MAINTENANCE
SUPERINTENDENT POSITION
WHEREAS, the Town's Maintenance Superintendent job class specification was last reviewed
in 2005; and
WHEREAS, the Personnel Rules and Regulations and Employee Classification and
Compensation Plan documents were last comprehensively reviewed and updated in 2006 and
revised in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Town's Rules and Regulations and Employee Classification and Compensation
Plan must be updated to reflect changes in compensation and payroll practices;
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills does hereby resolve as
follows:
1. The City Council does hereby adopt revisions to the Maintenance Superintendent job
class specification as attached hereto in Exhibit A; and
2. The City Council does hereby amend Section 7.5 —"Definition of Exempt Employee"
to include the Maintenance Superintendent job class specification; and
3. The City Council does hereby amend Section 1 — "Authorized Classifications" of the
Town's Classification and Compensation Plan to reflect a new salary range for the
Maintenance Superintendent position.
The above and foregoing.Resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the Town of
Los Altos Hills at a regular meeting held on the 18th day of October, 2012 by the following vote:

POSITION DESCRIPTION
TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

Reports To: City Engineer/Public Works Director FLSA: Exempt
Supervises: Maintenance Workers
Position Description:
This is a "hands-on" supervisory position. Under general direction of the City Engineer/Public
Works Director, the Maintenance Superintendent plans, coordinates, assigns, supervises day-to-
day operations of the Town's Maintenance division, works with the maintenance crew in the
maintenance and repair of equipment, streets, paths, buildings, small bridges, trees, storm drains,
sewer systems and other public facilities. Establishes project costs, assists in preparation of
annual budget, evaluates and trains subordinates and performs other work as required.
Examples of Duties:
• Plans, supervises and works with the maintenance crew in clearing, grading, repair, and
construction of waterways, slope protection, streets, pathways, driveways and parking
areas which involve asphalt or concrete pavement and structures.
• Plans, supervises and works the crew in rehabilitation, replacement and repair of paths,
street signs, catch basins, riprap slope protection and storm drains.
• Performs and supervises moderately complex carpentry projects.
• Plans, supervises and works with the crew in the pruning and spraying of plant materials.
• Inspects work of crew and contractors for quality and completeness.
• Oversees employee safety and training programs and enforces employee safety
procedures.
• Oversees the maintenance and use of tools, vehicles and equipment and monitors crews
for workload and proper and effective use of equipment.
• Assigns personnel and equipment as needed.
• Investigates accidents and equipment breakdowns.
• Prepares requisitions for material, supplies and services and coordinates materials testing.
• Prepares construction reports.
• Keeps records and writes reports on maintenance projects and activities.
• Prepares project cost estimates and schedules and aids in budget preparation.
• Establishes and implements preventative maintenance, weed abatement and street
sweeping programs.

• Negotiates with private contractors for performing various maintenance services and
projects.
Abilities:
• Effectively supervise the work of a maintenance crew in a variety of types of public
works projects and activities.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Make cost estimates and develop work programs.
• Keep records and make reports.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other
employees.
• Use personal computer for work scheduling and preparation of reports.
Knowledge of:
• Methods, equipment and materials used in the construction and maintenance of streets,
trees, pathways, drainage, sewer, small structures and other various public work facilities.
• Characteristics and uses of various paving materials.
• Operation, maintenance, and capabilities of construction and maintenance equipment.
Qualifications:
• Associate degree or equivalent
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience involving equipment operation and
maintenance, construction of streets, storm drains, sewers, and related facilities, or
equivalent work. Supervisory experience is desirable.
• Valid California Class B Drivers' License.
• Additional related experience and certifications may substitute for required education
