HomeMy WebLinkAbout29-09 • • RESOLUTION NO. 29-09 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS IN SUPPORT OF THE EFFORT TO BRING MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TO SANTA CLARA COUNTY WHEREAS, the Oakland Athletics' have identified the City of San Jose as their principal choice for their new location; and WHEREAS, the County of Santa Clara would reap significant economic development by the relocation of a Major League Baseball franchise, the Oakland Athletics, to San Jose; and WHEREAS, the Town of Los Altos Hills, one of fifteen cities that comprises the County of Santa Clara, supports the County's efforts to enter into a relationship with a Major League sports team and believes that such a relationship will benefit the County as a whole; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Giants currently have territorial rights to the County of Santa Clara, which were granted in 1992, as they were considering a move to the County of Santa Clara; and WHEREAS, Major League Baseball's territorial rights may be changed or amended by Mayor League Baseball owners at any time; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills does hereby respectfully request that Major League Baseball, with whatever means possible and appropriate, eliminate the Giants exclusivity to the County of Santa Clara. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town of Los Altos Hills encourages Major League Baseball to consider San Jose and the County of Santa Clara a premier location for a Major League Baseball team. PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills on this 14th day of May 2009, by the following vote: AYES: Mayor Mordo, Mayor Pro Tem Warshawsky, Councilmember Kerr, Councilmember Larsen and Councilmember Summit NAYS: None ABSENT: None By: ATTEST: Mayor City Clerk —�
