HomeMy WebLinkAbout49-09 --14 • Resolution No. 49-09 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS HONORING MARY DAVEY WHEREAS, For almost 50 years Mary Davey has been an exceptional and passionate advocate and worker to improve the quality of life in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties; and WHEREAS, Mary Davey was one of the founding members of the Committee for Green Foothills, has served on its Board as President and as a Board Member for many years;and WHEREAS, Mary Davey was the first woman to be elected to serve on the Los Altos Hills City Council in 1966 and during her six years on the Council,including her time as Mayor, distinguished herself through unparalleled support of open space and community involvement;and WHEREAS,Mary Davey helped in 1968 to secure Byrne Preserve, the largest open space preserve in Los Altos Hills, for the Town and the enjoyment of the residents;and WHEREAS, Mary Davey helped found the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District in 1972 to safeguard, protect and preserve open space in northern Santa Clara and southern San Mateo Counties and serves today on the Board of MROSD, which has permanently preserved nearly 55,000 acres of open space creating 25 open space preserves; and WHEREAS,Mary Davey has served on the Open Space Committee of the Town of Los Altos Hills since its formation in 2003 as a valued and contributing member of the Committee; and WHEREAS,Mary Davey successfully led the group that purchased and still owns the Peninsula Conservation Center in Palo Alto,which provides office space for a dozen or so environmental organizations, thus increasing the effectiveness, coordination and stability of all. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Los Altos Hills City Council takes note of these many accomplishments and contributions on behalf of the community of Los Altos Hills and honors and congratulates Mary Davey, as it adds its voice to the award being presented to her by the Committee for Green Foothills.
