RESOLUTION #92-97
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS
HILLS PRESENTING THE TOWN'S POSITION ON FUTURE LAND USES
AT MOFFETT FEDERAL AIRFIELD
WHEREAS, it is a duty of local government to represent its citizens on matters
of regional significance, including environmental and development issues that
affect the quality of life in the community; and
WHEREAS, any operations at the Moffett Federal Airfield such as air cargo,
• commercial, and general aviation, expanded aircraft maintenance, and engine
testing facilities would have serious negative impacts on the quality of life in the
Town of Los Altos Hills, in terms of noise, air pollution, and safety; and
WHEREAS, other potential land uses, including the use of the Airfield by NASA
Ames would bring increased environmental and economic benefits to the
surrounding region;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council of the Town of
Los Altos Hills:
1. Strongly opposes the use of Moffett Federal Airfield for any of the following
uses: air cargo, commercial, and general aviation, expanded aircraft maintenance,
engine testing facilities, and expansion of airfield operations beyond that which is
reasonable and necessary to provide for the transport of government and
commercial space products proposed as one of the initiatives of NASA Ames; and
2. Does not believe that restrictive conditions placed on the operation of air cargo,
commercial, and general aviation as described in the CAC report can be
effectively enforced; and
3. Supports the retention of NASA Ames as the federal steward of Moffett Federal
Airfield; and
4. Supports continued use of the Airfield by NASA Ames and federal and state
government agencies in all of its existing forms, including research and
development, testing, research aircraft, emergency and military training and
operations, high technology institutions and expanded roles in research and
development with private sector firms; and
5. Endorses land uses at the Airfield that will further the six major initiatives of the
NASA Ames Research Center as outlined in the CAC report; and

6. Encourages land use planning processes to develop land uses at the Airfield that
enhance the environmental, housing, open space and recreational opportunities of
the region, and that will ensure the highest quality of life for existing and future
generations.
