RESOLUTION NO. 26-08
RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS ORDERING
AND CALLING A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO FILL THREE CITY
COUNCIL SEATS; REQUESTING THE SERVICES OF THE REGISTRAR OF
VOTERS; REQUESTING CONSOLIDATION OF ELECTIONS WITH THE ELECTION
TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 4,2008; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF THE
ELECTION; AND ADOPTING UNIFORM POLICIES PERTAINING TO CANDIDATE
STATEMENTS AND FEES
WHEREAS,Elections Code Section 10400 provides that a City Council may request
that a County Board of Supervisors consolidate a general municipal election with the statewide
general election; and
WHEREAS,the term of three members of the City Council are due to expire and the
positions must be filled; and
WHEREAS, Section 12109 of the Elections Code provides that the elections official
conducting the election shall give notice of the designation of a central counting place for the
voted ballots of the Town of Los Altos Hills General Municipal Election.
NOW,THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS
HILLS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. The City Council hereby calls for a General Municipal Election in and for the Town of
Los Altos Hills on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, for the purpose of electing three (3)
Councilmembers, each for a full term of four(4) years.
2. Pursuant to Sections 10400, 10402, and 10403 of the California State Elections Code, it
is in the best interest of the public to consolidate the Los Altos Hills General Municipal
Election with the Statewide Election to be held on November 4, 2008.
NOW THEREFORE,IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED:
1. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara("Board of Supervisors") is
requested to consolidate the Town of Los Altos Hills General Municipal Election with
the Statewide Election on November 4, 2008, for three City Council seats, and make
available the services of the Registrar of Voters for the purpose of providing the usual
services necessary in the conduct of said election, including the provision of election
supplies and voter pamphlets.
2. That the Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara is authorized to specify the
location for the tally of ballots, canvass the results of the three Council seats and certify
the results to the City Clerk of the Town of Los Altos Hills; and

3. That the City Clerk shall file a certified copy of this Resolution with the Santa Clara
County Board of Supervisors and the Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara.
4. That the CityManager is authorized and directed to compensate the Countyfor the cost

of conducting the General Municipal Election for the City.
5. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to publish a Notice of General
Municipal Election within the time and manner specified in California Elections Code
Section 12101.
6. Pursuant to Sections 10228 and 13307 of the Elections Code,the City Council approves
and adopts the following uniform policies and procedures concerning the General
Municipal Election to be held on November 4, 2008:
a) Each candidate shall be permitted to submit a Candidate's Statement of no more
than 200 words.
b) Candidates shall be exempt from charges for the cost of translations mandated by
the Federal Voting Rights Act and the preparation and mailing of said Candidate's
Statements.
c) Candidates shall be exempt from payment of any filing fee.
The foregoing resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the City Council
of the Town of Los Altos Hills, California, at a meeting held on the 22nd day of May, 2008 by the
following roll call vote:
AYES: Mayor Jones, Vice Mayor Mordo, Councilmember Kerr,
Councilmember O'Malley and Councilmember Warshawsky
