MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
August 1, 1957
The meeting was called to order at 7:45 PM, Thursday, August 1,
1957 by Chairman Hart Tantau at the Town Hall, 26379 West Fremont,
Los Altos Hills.

Mellquist, Powell, Sherlock, Spain,
Williams.
ABSENT: Commissioner Bullis

Motion: Spain; Second: Dawson; Vote: Passed Unanimously
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the minutes of July 20, 1957 with the above corrections.
CORRESPONDENCE:
1. Letter from Fremont Iiills Development Company concerning
the landscaping of the entrance.
Motion: Mellquist; Second: Dawson; Vote: Passed Unanimously
RECOMMENDATION:
The statue of St. Francis at the entrance of Fremont Hills
subdivision shall be placed no closer than 75' from the
center line of West Fremont Road.

2. Letter from Colin Peters asking for a statement on the
status of his check for $989.00 for road improvement on
South E1 Monte.
The Planning Commission directed the Secretary to send a
memorandum to the Council and to Mr. Peters stating that:
(a) Mr. Peter's check is deposited in the Special
Road Fund.
(b) In view of the unresolved status of improvement
Plans for this road we are unable to say how these
funds will be specifically employed.
3. Report of a study by Town Engineer McCandless on the
intersection of Conception and West Fremont.
This plan was referred for study to a joint meeting of
the Planning Committee and the Map Committee.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Commissioner Spain reported on his study of letters from
three Planning Consultants.
The Planning Committee is to study these offers and mc��
a specific recommendation at the next Planning Commission
Meeting.
2. Commissioner Dawson asked for the feeling of the Planning
Commission as to current publicity initiated by the City
of Los Altos on the route of the Juniper Serra Freeway.
Mr. Dawson pointed out that paid publicity firms are being
heard rather than qualified planners, and that facts are
being distorted.
Motion: Tantau; Second: Dawson; Vote: Passed Unanimously
RECOMMENDATION:
The Planning Commission re -affirms its vote of May 7, 1957,
approving the route for Juniper Serra Freeway that begins at
Arastradero Road and parallels the Southern Pacific Railroad
Tracks. The Commission specifically points out the additional
distance to Route C which would necessitate tremondous
increased costs for access roads which the Town of Los Altos
Hills would be forced to build.

1. John S. Morse (V-12-57)

Adjoining property owners approved this variance and
there were no objectors.
Motion: Mellquist; Second: Powell; Vote: Passed
Unanimous'-;,
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the granting of this variance to Mr. Morse
for a sideyard setback reduction for pool to 101.
2. Raymond Andersen (V-13-57)
Request for reduction of sideyard setback of residence
to 20'.
Mr. Andersen appeared. Adjoining property owners
approved this variance and there were no objectors.
Motion: Sherlock; Second: Powell; Vote: Passed Unanimously
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the granting of this variance to Mr. Andersen
reducing one sideyard setback for the residence to 201.
3• Frank L. Martinelli, Jr. (V-14-57)
Use permit for Country Club.
Mr. Martinelli, Mr, Wm. Anderson, Attorney and Mr.
Clark Classen appeared.
This proposal was referred to the Planning Committee
for study with the request that Mr. Martinelli provide
a more complete map of his total holdings and a plot
plan showing adjacent property owners.

1. E. C. Cool(90-57) 1 Lot. Tentative map dated July,

appeared.
Motion: Williams; Second: Dawson; Vote: Passed Unanimously

HECOMMENDAriON:
Approve this map for planning purposes subject to the dedication
of 30' from the center line of Elena.
SUBDIVISION:
1. Vista DelValle (Elena Hills) (74-57) 8 Lots. Revised
tentative map dated April, 1957. Engineer: Wolff.
Mr. Wolff appeared.
Motion: Dawson; Second: Powell; Vote: Passed Unanimously
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve this map which shows revisions requested at April
meeting and has agency approvals.
2. Fremont Hills Unit #5 (91-57) 54 Lots. Engineer:
Boman. Tentative map dated July, 1957. First
appearance.
Mr. Riley, Engineer appeared. This map was referred to
4 the Map Committee for study.

There will be a Map Committee meeting Wednesday, August 7, 1957
at 7:30 PM at the Town Hall.
The next meeting of the Planning Commission will be Saturday,
August 17, 1957 at 9:30 AM. .. .
