HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/10/1980VARIANCE AND PERMIT COMMTSSION Town of Los Altos Hills 26379 Fremont Road Los Altos Hills, California MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING Wednesday, December 10, 1980 Reel 90, Side II, Tract I, 275-530 The meeting of the Variance and Permit Commission was called to order by Chairman vanTamelen at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Dochnahl, Kuranoff, vanTamelen Absent: None Also Present: Pat Webb Assistant Planner, John A. Carlson City Engineer/Planner, Leslie Penfold Secretary PUBLIC HEARINGS: I) Lands of Sokoloff, File #VAR 11-80, 12390 Barley Hill Road, Henry Sumaraga, Land- scape Architect, Request for Recommendation of windscreen above six feet in height, Resubmittalpproval for a Variance for a Ms.Webb indicated that this item is a resubmittal of a variance for a windscreen over six feet in height, it was denied by the Variance and Permit Commission on October 22, 1980. The Public Hearing was then opened .for discussion. Mrs. Sokoloff, applicant, indicated that the arbor would be much more esthetic than a fence around the property. Mr. Sokoloff, applicant, noted that they have considered a six foot arbor, but it would be less effective as a windscreen. Mr. Sumaraga, Landscape Architect, indicated that without changing the patio and retaining wall, plants alone could not be planted as a windcreen, also due to the drainage swale and pipe the planting would be difficult. Mr. Stewart, 12165 Hilltop Drive, indicated that he was OPposed to the windscreen. The Public Hearing was then closed. Commissioners discussed the possibility of the applicant planting a windscreen or lowering the arbor to six feet. Commissioner vanTamelen noted that there are other possibilities available to the applicant, and does agree that there is an exceptional circumstance due to the wind. She indicated that Item #2 of the Variance Requirement was not met. MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY: It was moved by Commissioner Dochnahl and seconded by Commissioner vanTamelen to deny the variance request for the Lands of VARIANCE AND PERMIT COMMISSION MINUTES OF DECEMBER 10, 1980 PACE TWO Sokoloff, File #VAR 11-80 for the following reason: 1) Condition lit of the Variance Reuuirements was not met with this application and 2) there are other alternatives that the applicant can take. Mr. & Mrs. Sokoloff were advised that they could make an appeal to the City Council in writing within ten (10) days of this meeting.
