3.2 LANDS OF SEIVER, 27869 Saddle Court (47-02-ZP-SD-VAR); A request
for a Site Development Permit for a 503 square foot addition (maximum
height 30 feet), and a variance to exceed the 27 foot maximum height
allowed. (continued from the September 12, 2002 Planning Commission
meeting).
Chairman Vitu stepped down from the hearing due to the proximity of her residence to the
application. Staff (Angelica Herrera) introduced this item by providing a brief history of the
project. The applicants had provided a signed statement from 25 neighbors who support the
project.
OPENED PUBLIC HEARING
Adam Seiver, 27869 Saddle Court, applicant, described severe water problems on the decks over
the master bedroom and the southwest comer of the garage. They have spent considerable about
of time and money to correct the situation, to no avail. After speaking to numerous contractors
regarding the flat roof leaks, it was felt if they enclosed the areas it would solve the water leak
problem. He highlighted the variance findings.
Walter Chapman, 620 EI Monte Avenue, Los Altos, project designer, described the current
situation and plans to enclose the areas that have experienced water damage. Only the corners of
the roof line actually exceed the 27 foot height maximum. The additions will blend in well with
the existing structure.
CLOSED PUBLIC HEARING
Commissioner Kerns felt the addition matched the architecture of the existing home. Given the
findings, he could support the application. Commissioner Wong agreed. Commissioner Clow
felt they could have been more creative in their approach, thus not needing a variance for the
height. He could not support the project.
MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED: Motion by Commissioner Kerns and seconded by
Commissioner Wong to approve the request for a Site Development Permit for a 503 square foot
addition (maximum height 30 feet), and a variance to exceed the 27 foot maximum height
