CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL, AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Mayor Tryon called the Special Meeting of the City Council to order at 5:35 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall. Present: Mayor Johnson and Councilmembers Dauber, Hubbard, Siegel and Tryon Absent: None Staff: City Manager Les M. Jones, 1I, Town Planner Linda Niles, Director of Public Works Jeff Peterson and City Clerk Pat Dowd Press: Don Brignolo, San Jose Mercury; Jan Shaw, Los Altos Town Crier 2. INTERVIEW CANDIDATES FOR PLANNING COMMISSION Tryon noted three applications had been received for appointment to the Planning Commission and Stephen Pahl had withdrawn his request to be considered for reappointment to the Planning Commission. Tryon also commented that an application had been received from Fred Montgomery and, if Council concurred, he would be interviewed at the next meeting. Council agreed to interview Shelley Doran, Viole McMahon and David Takamoto and to defer making an appointment until the next Council meeting. ` lune 16, 1993 Special Meeting Shelley Doran, 24920 La Loma Court, commented that she wanted to get involved in the community and had the time to devote to the many duties of a Planning Commissioner. She understood planning issues and had recently completed a planning project in the Town. She had worked very well with staff but believed there were some procedures which could be improved. Viole McMahon, 27975 Via Ventana, stated that she understood the time commitment of this four year term. She had been designing residences for sixteen years, worked well with people and did not believe she would have any conflicts of interest in the Town. Through her work on the State Board she understood the rules and regulations of planning issues and also the intent of these rules and believed the Town's ordinances were clear. David Takamoto, 13680 Robleda, commented on his background and his strong commitment to good design and planning. Presently he was in the process of remodeling his home in the Town. He had stepped down as President of his company last year and now had more time to devote to the community. He thought serving on the Planning Commission would be a good way to participate. In response to an inquiry from Council about possible conflicts of interest particularly since he worked with Foothill College, Mr. Takamoto responded that he did not foresee any conflicts of interest. Council thanked all three applicants for their interest in the Town and their willingness to serve on the Planning Commission. MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: Moved by Dauber, seconded by Tryon and passed unanimously to defer the appointment to the Planning Commission to the June 23, 1993 Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council. 3. REORGANIZATION OF COUNCIL MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: Moved by Hubbard, seconded by Siegel and passed by the following roll call vote to appoint Bob Johnson as Mayor and Elayne Dauber as Mayor Pro Tem, each for a term of one year. AYES: Councilmembers Hubbard, Siegel and Tryon NOES: None ABSTAIN: Councilmembers Dauber and Johnson June 16, 1993 Special Meeting ) yr Johnson presented Tryon with a gift from the Town and Hubbard presented her with a plaque. Tryon was thanked for her contributions as Mayor, noting that she was an excellent ambassadress for the Town. Tryon was also thanked for all of her hard work at many County agencies on behalf of the Town. Tryon thanked the Council for their comments. She noted it had been a great Council to work with and she commented it had been a wonderful year with great team effort. Johnson thanked everyone for his appointment as Mayor. He commented that he had been Mayor before and had learned a lot during his term as Mayor. He particularly thanked his colleagues on the Council for all of their expertise and help. 4. PRESENTATIONS FROM THE FLOOR 5.
