2. APPROVAL OF COUNTYWIDE HOUSEHOLD WASTE AGENCY
AGREEMENT--RESO #55-91
The Director of Public Works expressed his appreciation to the Council for
their attendance at the Special Meeting. He explained that their approval of
the agreement at this time would enable Town residents to participate in the
November 9 -10 drop off event in Mountain View. The next event will not
be scheduled until later this year. He noted that the San Jose City Attorney is
requesting some clarification language regarding liability be added to the
agreement and it would be forth coming. The City Attorney has reviewed the
agreement and is comfortable with the present language. When the Board of
Supervisors adopts San Jose's suggested language, an amendment will be sent
to Council for approval and signing.
Siegel noted that the budgeted amount of$32,000.00 was for Fiscal Year 91-92
and wondered if it would increase in the future. Staff explained that the
Town would be billed for actual use at the end of each event and the
expectation is for approximately $10,000.00 a year. After several years we
should have a better sense of Town's use of the program. Staff noted that
costs are included in the residents garbage rates.
Siegel asked how Town residents would be notified of events. Staff
responded that the Town is responsible for informing residents and would be
placing advertisements in the local papers.. It was suggested by Council that
Staff work with Los Altos and other cities to co-sponsor advertisement since
the County Hotline for reservations is the same telephone number for all
cities participating in the program. Staff agreed to contact the City of Los
Altos.
Staff noted that in the future we will have a calender for all events and will
request that LAGCO notice customers in their billings.
MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: Moved by Johnson, seconded by
Tryon and passed unanimously by all members present to adopt Resolution
#55-91 accepting the County Household Hazardous Waste Agreement.
