I, Side II, 150-186 Mayor Dronkert called the Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall. A. ROLL CALL: Present: Mayor Dronkert and Councikui ers Allison, Fuhrman and van Tamelen Absent: Councilmenber Rydell Staff: City Manager George Scarborough, City Attorney Frank Gillio and City Clerk Pat Dowd Press: Jon Baker, San Jose Mercury B. DErFRMINNTIGN hlHEr1ER TO CONDUCT MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON APRIL 8, 1986 OR WHETHER TO APPOINT SOLE ronin Es EUR CITY OFFICES. It was reported that at the close of the filing period for the 4/8/86 Municipal Election, two residents had filed for two Council -oats. The appropriate I publishing of these facts had taken place and Council had the option of holding the 4/8/86 election or of appointing the two naninees to the two Council seats. MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: Moved by Allison, seconded by Fuhrman and passed by the following roll rail vote to adopt Resolution #14-86 appointing Mary vanTamelen and Barbara Tryon to the office of member of the City Council, and directing that the General Municipal Election scheduled for April 8, 1986 not be held. AYES: Mayor Dronkert and Councilmenbers Allison and Furhnan NOES: None ABSENT: Councils Rydell ABSTAIN: Councilor van Tamelen van Ta,elen stated that while she totally approved of the appointment of Barbara Tryon to the Council, she felt it not appropriate to also vote to adopt the Resolution which would appoint her to the Council as well. Mayor Dronkert congratulated both Mary van Tamelen.and Barbara Tryon and Council noted that there had seemed no reason to go through the time and expense of an election when only two nominees had applied for two Council seats. Barbara Tryon, Chairman - Safety Ccnnittee, thanked the Council for their support and cooperation while she had served the Town as a member of sane of the Town's standing committees. She was looking forward to her working with than on the Council. 41, C.
