Mayor Helgesson announced that he was pleased to introduce Supervisor Geraldine
Steinhern. who represented the Fifth District nn the Santa Clara County Roard of
Supervisors.
Sunervisor Steinberg stated she was nleased to be present this evening and said
she had found, since her appointment to the Roard a year apo, that there was a
great need to have onenness in government. She said she !•iould hive a brief over-
vie,s of the policy -racing decisions of the Board and then oven the floor for
questions from rouncil and the public.
After a summary of County activities i�hich were the resnensibility of the Board,
Supervisor Steinhern ge.ve some of the highlinhts which ha' hannenerl. since she
took office. She noted that she had worked on the renegotiations between the
Torm and the County relative to Sheriff services; she had ijofted closely with the
Ta:!n's officials, including Councilwoman Hiller, renardinq lands i thin the Town's
Sphere of Influence, and as a result, the Town has a chance to revievi any actions
being considered before the Roard with renard to land i+ithin that Sphere. She
said the Board of Supervisors had ordered a complete Audit of the County Assess-
or's n4fice, which rias a culmination of the efforts of Staff and ')r. nean
Alexander regardinn assessment practices.

novcrncent. She said stn i-rould not he in favor of such a novernment; that she

said she t,ias in favor of the elimination of the dunli ca tion of services. S.h.e
felt there were some services that were better provide' by the Count;', but that
others should he handled by the cities.

Commissioner Young stated the rationale behind the decision of the Variance
and Permit Commission to refer the matter to the entire Commission, ¢A?ich
include;': concern over the o!idth of the road-, possible fire hazards in the
areas the numher of bones already located on this private roa-' drainage
problems. He said this natter would be before the Planninn Commission for
resolution at their first meeting in January.
