The Regular Adjourned r?eeting and Special P_eeting of the City
Council of the Town of Los Altos calls was called to order, _vesday,

Ballots of the General f^uniciral election, held Arril 14, 1964,
were canvassed.
Resolution 7,o. 272, a Resolution of the Council. of the Town
of Los :Altos -Til I declaring the Result of its Canvass of
the Frecinct Flection Returns of the General PRuniciral
Election held on A.rril 14, 1964, was presented and read in
its entirety by the City Attorney.
ACTION:

Councilmen Aiken, Bowler and +lenley were administered and.
subscribed to Oath by the City Clerk.
The choice of i4ayor and Deputy rayor was deferred until the
presence of a full Council.

Pdril 16d advising the PIayor that his letter of April 142h
has promrted a campaign urging students to discontinue the
Robleda Road traffic pattern and offering their full co-
operation.

1. Report on E1 Monte =Free_w.ay Interchange pedestrian Traffic
Means.
Councilman Aiken presented and read a written report dated
April 21, 1964, retarding his meeting with State Higin;ay
Ingineers on the E1 Monte over ass and. signalization.
ACTIO`?:
That the Council authorize the Filing of a
formal request with the Highsay Department
requesting that the median stria under the
71 Monte underpass be fenced and used for
pedestrian traffic. In this regard, it is
necessary to indicate in the request that
the signals at each end of this section of the
median strip will be put in retardless of the
use of the median strip; also,
That the Town inform St. Nicholas School of
the necessity for a crossing guard and con-
tinued safety education by the school and
parents.
MOTION: Aiken; SECOND: Fowler; VCT Passed unanimously.
ACT^ION:
That authorization be given to the County to
proceed with the design and construction of
signals at the entrance to Foothill College on
E1 Sponte. Costs to be borne by the Town from,
money provided by the college.

The City Attorney clarified the status of distribution lines
being r run to previously apjcoved subdivisions in that the
Utility Company is authorizedto set poles in public riThts-
of-way or on existing_ easements in order to reach the lot to
be served.

overhead utilities in this area.
It was suggested by the Council t'Mt the Lindell v-ariance
be considered by the Planning Comnission on its own merits
(overhead utilities on a service entry from the lot line),
and that the staff cooperate with the Manning Comnissi_on
by conferring with the Iublic ',as ' 7,lectric Co in an effort
to serve tais rropert *ith.. the mininup_ obstruction��.

tr. Goetz felt that if the Lindells and the immediately
adjacent owners were to most together to discuss a "share
the cost" plan _`or underground utilities, this might solve
the problem.
The I"ayor agreed this was an excellent idea and they could be
assured of the cooperation of the 6taff. The 71anning
Com-_:^ission will be fully informed.

Mr. D. G. ITackay, representin', Pir. R. Greene, questioned the
feasibility of dividing where such extreme costs are involved.
for a 2-lot subdivision.
Commissioner Boiler felt there should be a "cost Ter lot"
criterion to determine the degree of hardship for the cost
i of imi,rovements in such a two-lot division.
.r. E. PIacDonald. was present and read the estimated costs
of his rec_uired iyzrovements and stated in order to crovide
the paths requested, extensive grading, leveling and -the
loss of at least four trees wouldbe necessa=.

his view in that he saw no need or the room for a path and
that the width of the Street required was not necessary.

That action on the Tentative Flap of the
Lands of Ialnh Greene be postponed_ and that

proposed standards for the Town 3recifications for Sub-
divisions and that the many requests indicated much public
interest. pie asked that the Council act on the request of
