Dear LAH Planning Commissioners,
Ours is a family of tennis players. Our son played on a varsity team on Pinewood School. We believed that his
preparations would have been significantly better if he had an access to lighted tennis courts near his home in
Los Altos Hills. FHCC has provided significant to the town of LAH since its founding. Having lighted courts in
town of LAH will add tremendous value to the town.
Thanks;

Dear Members of the Los Altos Hills Planning Commission:
I have been a resident of -Los Altos Hills since 1987 and a member of Fremont Hills Country Club since then.
We love our town and where we live, and wouldn't consider living anywhere else. We use our Country Club
for sporting activities, family gatherings, social events with our friends as well as business meetings,: FHCC has
played a major part in our lives and our children. My wife and I have two daughters who were born in LAH,
attended public schools in Los Altos, went to college and come back to visit us every now then. One of the first
things that they want to do when they are back is to go to the Club. We want all the new young families that
come to LAH to experience the same quality of living.
One area to make sure that future LAH residents will have same type of living experience as we have had is to
stay up to date with demands and desires of the new generations and modern technology. That is why I feel
very strongly that in order for our community to be competitive with our neighboring communities we need to
upgrade our community wide facilities. Because of this I support the lighting of the tennis courts at FHCC and
would strongly urge you to do so as well.
Respectfully yours,
Amir Ameri

Planning Commission Members:
I am a 45 year resident of Los Altos Hills and member of the Fremont Hills Country Club.
My wife and I strongly support this much needed lighting project for our tennis courts.
I am now retired, but when working I had to take advantage of the Los Altos and Mt. View
courts for winter play as these had lights.
On our courts I could only play during the weekend. Most of of members are working and their
playing time is limited to weekends during much of the year.
I have served as a member and also chair of our town Environmental Design and Protection
committee. I feel that the project as submitted is appropriate.
Thank you

Dear Los Altos Hills Town Council:
Thank you for your diligence on the modification of the conditional use permit to include lighting on some
courts at Fremont Hills Country Club.
As a FHCC member since 2008, I've noticed that the tennis clubs we compete with have lighting. It is difficult
to schedule competitive matches during the week in the winter, and lights would help greatly. It will provide our
competitive juniors with more opportunities to practice as well, which improves their prospects at playing at the
high school or collegiate level.
Finally, there will be no direct viewing of the light from surrounding homes, as the homes in the vicinity of the
club are located above the height of the proposed lights. The surfaces of the courts and the dark perimeter
screening are expected to absorb light and reduce scattering of light upward.
Since tennis generates very little noise, we don't think the neighbors will be negatively impacted by noise.
I know this change makes a few of the neighbors anxious, but FHCC has been a good neighbor over the years
and there is no reason that will change.
Thanks you for reading.
Sincerely,
Roger Quinlan

Hello,
Please accept this email as our vote to support the tennis court lights at FHCC. Los Altos is
sadly lacking in options for pre -teens and teenage young adults, and not offering a nighttime
tennis option does not help this situation at all. We need to give both young and old alike,
an opportunity to be active, in a healthy way, after dark. We do not believe these lights
will destroy the neighborhood or negatively affect the nearby residents. Please allow FHCC to
add lights to the tennis courts.

Los Altos Hills Planning Commission,
I'm a Los Altos Hills resident for 31 and a member of Fremont Hills Country Club for 20
years.
I support the request by Fremont Hills Country Club to install tennis court lights at the
club. Those involved in the project have worked to ensure minimum impact on neighbors by
conducting neighbor outreach surveys showing favorable results, choosing only the least
visible courts, limiting hours, and proposing fully shielded lighting.
I play matches at many of the clubs and facilities in this area, most of which have night
lighting, and find that they have an advantage in recruiting new members, scheduling
competitive matches, and offering more choices for students or working members. The club has
been an asset for this community, and offering a choice like this would enhance the viability
of the facility.
I urge you make an exception and approve the request to allow court lighting at the club.
Thank you,
Laurie Hodgen

We are residents on La Cresta Dr near the Freemont Hills Country Club. The Club is a very great feature of our
community. The Tennis Court lighting request before the City should be approved. Many working families and young
people benefit from the Club. Having these facilities available in the evening for them is very important to the health
and vibrancy of our community.

Subject: Fremont Hills Country Club Tennis Court Lighting Project Support
Dear Planning Commission Members and Staff:
I am writing to support the Fremont Hills Country Club in it application to install lighting on five of its tennis
courts. I understand the proposal would require an amendment to a town ordinance and will be the subject of a
Planning Commission meeting on June 24 before it goes to the Town,Council.
I am a 30 -year resident of Los Altos Hills and for many of those years have been a member of the Club and an
active tennis player. To me, the Club, with its broad array of activities and the social venue provided by its
clubhouse, is one of the principal attractions of Los Altos Hills. Over the years I have seen many young
families include the presence of the Club as a major factor in their decisions to move to Los Altos Hills. It was
certainly a factor in my decision to move here in 1984.
For years the Club has wished to have some lighted courts to enhance the utilization of its marvelous tennis
facility. Lighted courts would give those members who are unable to play during the workday the opportunity
to play in the evening. Also, as you perhaps know, the courts can be particularly hot during the summer months
and lighted courts would afford members the opportunity to play under cooler conditions. These benefits would
only strengthen an already strong tennis program at the Club and increase the attractiveness of the Club to new
residents who are considering membership.
I understand that the Club, at the request of the Commission and at considerable expense, has completed a
variety of studies of the potential impact of the lighted courts on the area in terms of added light, sound and
traffic. While the Commission and its Staff will have to evaluate those studies and form their own conclusions,
I believe those studies demonstrate that the addition of lights to the courts will have minimal impact on the
Club's immediate environment.
I urge the Commission to give favorable consideration to the Club's proposal. The Club is a strong component
of the attractiveness of Los Altos Hills to existing and potential residents. The relatively minor step of adding
lights to several of the courts would enhance the attractiveness of the Club and indirectly benefit the Town
without unduly burdening those residents in the vicinity of the Club.
Respectfully,
Henry Massey

Dear Planning Commission Members and Staff:
I would like to add my voice to those residents who are supporting Fremont Hills Country Club in its proposal
to install lighting on five tennis courts. As I understand it, the proposal will be the subject of a Planning
Commission meeting on June 24 before the matter goes to the Town Council.
I have been a resident of Los Altos Hills since 2001 and a member of the Club for many of those years. I am an
active tennis player at the Club and would welcome the addition of lighting to the courts to give us more
flexibility in scheduling matches and, in the summer, to avoid the heat.
I also have twin seven-year old granddaughters who live on Viscaino Court, a short distance from the Club.
They have been participating in (and greatly enjoying) the Club's junior tennis program now for more than a
year. While they are too young to utilize the lighted courts now, it won't be long before they would be able to
enjoy the benefits of the additional court availability.
Beyond my personal desire to have the lighted courts, I think that they would greatly enhance the attractiveness
of the Club to potential new members. The Club is an important aspect of life in the Hills, and would only be
more so if the facility is improved by the addition of lights.
Respectfully,

HI Commission Members: I just wanted to put in a word concerning the above proposal. I will
be attending this meeting and want to express my concern about rescinding an ordinance for
special interests. If a non-residential, for profit business is allowed to do this, what is
preventing every other property owner with a tennis court to demand lighting for their
'special needs'.

Dear Los Altos Hills Planning Commission,
We sent the email below in December advocating for the approval of lights for the tennis
courts at Fremont Hills Country Club. Our support, and the reasons for it are in the
somewhat revised email below.
Thank you for your consideration.
We would like to express our support for the town of Los Altos Hills to approve lighting
for the lower tennis courts at Fremont Hills Country Club. We believe that having lights
on the courts would be a great benefit to the members and non-members of Fremont
Hills as well as to the town of Los Altos Hills and Los Altos.
Although Fremont Hills Country Club is in a residential neighborhood, the acreage is
large and the lower tennis courts are not situated near any neighbors, so the new
technology lights that shine down on the courts should not be visibly by any neighbors.
We also believe that there would be no noise impact by having lights on the courts, as
tennis matches are not noisy, even during the day. Fremont Hills Country Club is a
unique asset to the town of Los Altos Hills and having lighted tennis courts would make
Fremont Hills more desirable and therefore a greater asset to the town.
There are many members of Fremont Hills Country Club who work during the day and
would like to play tennis in the evenings. While this is possible in the summer months
without Fights, it is not possible for at least six months of the year. Having lights would
enable those who work the opportunity to play tennis, get exercise and socialize in the
evening ... a social and health benefit to many residents of Los Altos Hills and nearby
cities.
Also, it would be an asset to Fremont Hills Country Club to be able to host USTA
matches in the evenings. Evening matches would make tennis more attractive to those
who work.
In addition to the benefit of local residents having use of the tennis courts in the
evenings, players from other clubs will have a chance to see Fremont Hills Country Club
and associate their positive experience with the beautiful town of Los Altos Hills. Some
players will venture to or from Fremont Hills to downtown Los Altos for meals or drinks.
Since all other swim and tennis clubs in the immediate area have lighted tennis courts,
the lack thereof puts Fremont Hills Country Club and the Los Altos Hills community at a
competitive disadvantage. We have known several families who sold their memberships
at Fremont Hills to join University Club or Foothills as they both have lighted courts. In
addition, some prospective members do not consider Fremont Hills Country Club as
there are not any lit courts and therefore, no night tennis.
Finally, not only members of Fremont Hills Country Club would benefit from lighted
courts. Many non-members take lessons and clinics at Fremont Hills. Also, there is a
large Juniors tennis program consisting of both members and non-members, which
would benefit from the expanded hours lit courts would provide.
We hope that the Planning Commission will recommend that the lighting project for
Fremont Hills Country Club be approved by the Town Council.
Thank you for your consideration.

To The Los Altos Hills Planning Commission
We are members of Fremont Hills Country Club. Our family likes to play tennis at the club almost every day
whenever daylight allows. Our son, Raunak Sood is a competitive tennis player among the top Norcal USTA 12
yr old players. In the winter, the lack of lighting on the tennis courts is a huge problem. We cannot play
recreational tennis after work, and my son is not able to practice tennis at our club, and instead we have to drive
him to clinics at Stanford or Santa Clara University where the courts have lights. We strongly support the
lighting of FHCC tennis courts and would appreciate if an exception is made to allow us to use our club better
to achieve a healthier lifestyle and reduce pollution from unnecessary driving to lighted tennis courts away from
our home in Los Altos.
Cheers,

Town of Los Altos Hills, California.
Hi Cynthia,
My name is Anil Gera and I reside at 12345 Gigli Court, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022. My property is directly
across the freeway from the country club and the tennis courts. I have a clear 180 degree view of three.of the
courts from my kitchen window, and partial view of the fourth one. I have full view for all of them from my
property.
I strongly oppose the installation of the lights at the tennis court for the following reasons:
1. I have been a resident at the above address for seven years and have never seen the courts being used for any
length of time.
2. Currently, when there is daylight till 8:30 pm, I have not seen any body playing a single game for the last two
weeks, during the evening hours. I have been monitoring the courts, closely.
3. This negates any claim the promoters may have about extra playing time.
4. The court -side lights will create significant light and noise pollution and will directly affect my property
value and standard of living.
5. I already hear a lot of whistle blowing and noise from the swimming pool, and it is my understanding that it
is more of a commercial venture.
6. It is my contention that promoters are just creating a sham need for more court time, whereas they want to
push a commercial agenda.
7. If the planning commission agrees to do this, it'll create a precedent for adding street lights through out the
town, something most of the town residents are against.
8. While I appreciate that most of the board members may be long-term residents, still I do not expect the town
planning commission to aid a governing body, that is being less than forthright in its demands.
I respectfully request you to disallow the addition of court -side lights at the Fremont country -Club. They are
plain and simple not needed.
Thank you,
Anil Gera

My name is Steve Chiu. I and my family live in 12882 Viscaino Rd. I won't be able to attend the
public hearing regarding the outdoor lightning request for Fremont Hills Country Club due to a
business trip. However, I still would like to use the email to voice my objection for such request
based on the following reasons:
1. The town ordinance does not allow such outdoor lighting. Why are we making exception for a
single group? Are we prepared to have outdoor lighting for all public parks at LAH moving
forward? How about tennis court within residence?
2. For most LAH residence, one of the reasons why we are living in this area is to enjoy the
tranquility of the place. I would not want to hear noises generated from tennis matches after dark.
3. A good portion of the members from the country club are not LAH residences. Why are we
sacrificing LAH residence quality of life for non -residence?
A side note:
4. There has been an increase in traffic going in and out of the country club. The town should
consider having the Country Club provides an entrance on Purissima Rd rather than traffic going
to the club via Viscaino Place.
Thank you for your attentions.

Hi,
I am against changing the municipal code for the city just so Fremont Hills( a private club) can have night lights.
Fremont Hills says it is for the members but in reality they want to lease the courts to clubs who need more courts (like
they lease out the pool to different swim clubs all year round).
Who needs to play tennis at 9 and 10 at night, (most people are in bed).
This club is turning into a business instead of a private club.
Out of the 475? members less than 190 are residents of Los Altos Hills.
Why should such a minority dictate for the rest of us.
We do not need night lights in Los Altos Hills.
